Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday dedicated the first AIIMS in the North East, built at a cost of Rs 1,123 crore, to the nation. The super-speciality hospital will provide healthcare not only to people in Assam but also to other northeastern states. He also virtually inaugurated three medical colleges at Nalbari, Nagaon and Kokrajhar.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Gauhati High Court here, Modi said "technology can help bring justice to remote areas such as in the northeast." Pointing to the need to bring in technology in justice delivery, he said, “Artificial Intelligence could be used to further bring 'Ease of Justice’''. It has also been noticed that, Modi's presence at different festivals associated with India's cultural and regional diversity over the years has been a constant.
Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi, who announced his decision to resign from the primary membership of the BJP after being denied ticket to contest in the May 10 Assembly elections, on Friday met senior Congress leaders, including its state unit President D K Shivakumar, and later on the former Karnataka deputy chief minister took his decision of joining Congress.
"Our meeting with Savadi took place in a cordial manner. We are aware of his dignity and position. He has agreed to become a member of our (Congress) family of his own volition. He is coming with us after accepting the party's ideology and leadership," Shivakumar, who was flanked by Savadi and Siddaramaiah, told reporters.
Delhi Power Minister Atishi said power subsidy to nearly 46 lakh people in the city will cease from Friday onwards as Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena is yet to clear the file to extend the subsidy to consumers. However, the Lt Governor's office said the power subsidy extension for the year 2023-24 has been approved by Saxena and accused Atishi of levelling false allegations. In what could emerge as the latest flashpoint between the city government and the Lt Governor office, the minister said she has sought a meeting with Saxena over the issue but there has been no response.
“The subsidy we give to 46 lakh people will stop from today. From Monday onwards, people will get inflated bills without subsidy," Atishi said in a press conference here.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao unveiled the 125-ft tall statue of B R Ambedkar here on Friday, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the architect of the Constitution, on a grand scale.
Flower petals were showered on the statute from a helicopter, paying rich tributes to Ambedkar.
The statue was built using 360 tonnes of stainless steel and 114 tonnes of bronze, at a cost of Rs 146.50 crore.
Heatwave-like conditions are prevailing in major parts of Jharkhand with the mercury crossing the 40-degree Celsius mark, a weather official said on Friday.
Since no significant synoptic condition is prevailing, the maximum temperature may rise by two to three degree Celsius from the existing temperature in the next 48 hours, he said.

At least 40 people, including several children, were injured when a footbridge collapsed in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Friday, officials said.
The incident took place at Beni Sangam in the Bain village of Chenani block during Baisakhi celebrations, they said.
Divisional Commissioner (Jammu) Ramesh Kumar said the bridge collapsed due to overloading as a large number of people had gathered on it. Police and relief teams rushed to the spot and began rescue operations, the officials said.
