A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking scrapping of the NEET-UG 2024 exam and an apex court-monitored probe by the CBI or any other independent agency into the alleged irregularities in the test held on May 5. While hearing separate petitions raising grievances over the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate)-2024, the apex court on Friday had sought responses from the Centre and the NTA on a plea for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into allegations of question paper leak and other irregularities in the exam.

Political strategist turned activist Prashant Kishor charged Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar with having "touched the feet" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure his own continuance in power. "People ask me why I am now criticising Nitish Kumar, having worked with him in the past. He was a different man back then. His conscience had not been put up for sale," said Kishor, who had managed the JD (U) president's election campaign in 2015 and formally joined the party two years later.

Eighteen people were injured when a tempo traveller skidded off the road and fell on the banks of Alaknanda river on Badrinath National Highway in Uttarakhand, officials said. The tempo carrying 23 people, including three crew members, skidded off the road and fell about 250 meters down on to the banks of Alaknanda river, he said.

Eight Naxalites and one security personnel were killed in an encounter in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh, police said. The gunfight broke out this morning in the forest of Abhujmad when a joint team of the security personnel from four districts - Narayanpur, Kanker, Dantewada and Kondagaon - was out on an anti-Naxal operation, a senior police official in Raipur said.

Senior BJP leader B S Yediyurappa said he will appear before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on June 17 for inquiry in connection with the POCSO case registered against him. The Karnataka High Court on June 14 restrained CID from arresting Yediyurappa in connection with the POCSO case.

IIT Kharagpur student from Assam Faizan Ahmed, whose decomposed body was found in a hostel room two years ago, "might have been hit by an object and shot at", a court-appointed forensic expert said. "According to the footage of the student's body, there was a lot of blood and sign of a wound under the ear near the jaw which indicates the use of a weapon. The post-mortem examination report indicated that the decomposed body was found two days after his death," forensic expert Dr A K Gupta said.

Kate, Britain's Princess of Wales, has arrived at Buckingham Palace ahead of her first public appearance since surgery five months ago revealed the presence of cancer. Kate has undergone preventative chemotherapy since the cancer announcement, and while treatment is continuing, her improved health means she will be able to appear in public for the first time since last December.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) said it has mobilised huge manpower and machinery to restore road connectivity to North Sikkim. Multiple landslides at various stretches, including Dikchu-Sanklang-Toong, Mangan-Sanklang, Singtham-Rangrang and Rangrang-Toong, besides collapse of the vital Sanklang suspension bridge, resulted in the severing of connectivity to North Sikkim, leaving around 1,200-1,500 tourists stranded.
