The security forces also exchanged fire with suspected Kuki militants in three different locations in Moreh town, police said.
Calcutta High Court ordered formation of a joint special investigation team of CBI and West Bengal police to probe an attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials at Sandeshkhali when they went to search the premises of TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh on January 5. The agency's counsel had prayed for transfer of the investigation into the attack to the CBI, claiming that the central agency does not have faith in a probe being done by the West Bengal police.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of doing nothing to bring about a solution to the Naga political issue for nine years after the Framework Agreement was signed in 2015. Attacking the prime minister, he said, “If you don’t have a solution, you should not lie and say you have a solution. Supreme Court deferred to January 22 the hearing on a plea of the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena against the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker's order declaring the Sena bloc led by CM Eknath Shinde as 'real political party' after its split in June 2022. The bench, also comprising justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, was urged by senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the Thackeray group, that the hearing be held on January 22 instead of January 19.
Two persons, including a 11-year old boy, were gored to death at the venue of a bull taming event held at Siravayal near Sivaganga. According to the police, the boy and a youth in his thirties were seriously wounded when they were attacked by bulls at the venue of 'Manjuvirattu'.
