Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her sixth straight Budget ahead of the Parliamentary elections, matching the record of former Prime Minister Morarji Desai. The interim budget 2024-25 allocated Rs 1,248.91 for the expenses incurred by the council of ministers, cabinet secretariat, prime minister's office, and on hospitality and entertainment of State guests.

A dozen land parcels in Ranchi measuring about 8.5 acres in total are in 'illegal possession, occupation and use' of arrested former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren and are proceeds of crime under the anti-money laundering law, the Enforcement Directorate has claimed. Soren arrested by the ED was produced before a PMLA court in Ranchi. Supreme Court agreed to hear on February 2 a plea of Soren challenging his arrest by the ED in a money laundering case.

Prayers were performed in a cellar of the Gyanvapi mosque here on Wednesday night following court orders allowing the resumption of a practice set to have being discontinued three decades back, Kashi Vishwanath temple trust president said. "Vyas ji's cellar was opened after 31 years for prayers," temple trust president Nagendra Pandey said.

A day after her Jharkhand counterpart Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an alleged land scam case, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that the BJP was imprisoning Opposition leaders to win the upcoming general elections. She reiterated that while her party was eager to form an alliance with the Congress for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state, it was the grand old party that rejected her proposal.

A Delhi court issued notice to the ED on an application of AAP MP Sanjay Singh, arrested in a money laundering case related to alleged excise scam, seeking interim bail to attend the ongoing Parliament session. The anti-money laundering agency had arrested Singh on October 4.

Fintech firm Paytm sees an impact of Rs 300-500 crore on its annual operational profit as its customers will not be able to add money to their wallets, FASTag etc following RBI barring Paytm Payments Bank Ltd from accepting deposits or top-ups in any customer account. Shares of One97 Communications Ltd, which owns Paytm brand, plummeted 20 per cent after the RBI's orders.

Delhi Police has registered a rape case after a former 'Big Boss' contestant and television actor accused her 'friend' of raping her in a south Delhi flat, an official said. "We have registered an FIR under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code at Tigri police station against one person. No arrest has been made so far. Teams have been formed to investigate the matter," a senior police officer said.
