In a series of flip-flops, a private agency hired by India to carry out initial scrutiny of visa applications of Canadians put out a note on its website on suspension of visa services due to 'operational reasons', withdrew it within hours and then again put it back online. The note put on Canada page of the firm's website, which was withdrawn and restored later, read, 'Important notice from Indian mission. Due to operational reasons, with effect from September 21, 2023, Indian visa services have been suspended till further notice. Please keep checking BLS website for further updates.'

India said there is a degree of prejudice in Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations against it on the killing of a Khalistani separatist in Canada and termed these as 'politically motivated'. India and Canada are embroiled in a diplomatic row over the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The row erupted following Trudeau's allegations of a 'potential' involvement of Indian agents in the killing of the separatist leader.

A landmark bill to reserve one-third of the seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women was introduced in the Rajya Sabha, with Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal saying it is part of a series of measures the government has taken for the empowerment of women. Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked all members of Lok Sabha wholeheartedly for passage of women's reservation bill.

Gangster Sukhdul Singh alias Sukha Duneke, one of Punjab's most wanted criminals, was killed in the Canadian city of Winnipeg by unidentified people. An active member of the Davinder Bambiha gang, Duneke was closely associated with Canada-based gangster-turned-terrorist Arsh Dalla, gangster Lucky Patial, Malaysia-based gangster Jackpal Singh alias Lali and other criminals.

Manipur Police said search operations have been conducted by security forces in various districts, and arms and ammunition, including mortar shells, were recovered. A joint team of Assam Rifles and the state police personnel conducted a search operation at a village in Kangpokpi district, and seized four mortar bombs which were kept hidden in the bushes.

Punjab Police launched raids at several places to nab criminals linked with Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, a senior official said. Senior police officers, including inspectors general of police, police commissioners and senior superintendents of police, are personally monitoring the operation.

The family of a North Carolina man who died after driving his car off a collapsed bridge while following Google Maps directions is suing the technology giant for negligence, claiming it had been informed of the collapse but failed to update its navigation system. State troopers who found Philip Paxton's body in his overturned and partially submerged truck had said there were no barriers or warning signs along the washed-out roadway.

Aviation watchdog DGCA said it has suspended Tata Group-owned Air India's Flight Safety Chief Rajeev Gupta for one month for certain lapses. On July 25 and 26, the regulator's team carried out the surveillance of Air India and found deficiencies in the accident prevention work carried out by the organisation and the availability of the requisite technical manpower as required in the approved Flight Safety Manual and the relevant Civil Aviation Requirements, DGCA said in a release.
