Congress announced that party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury have 'respectfully declined' the invitation to attend the Ram Temple consecration ceremony, alleging that it has been made into a 'political project' by the BJP and the RSS for 'electoral gain'. Last month, Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Gandhi and Leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Chowdhury received the invitation to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Ram temple at Ayodhya to be held on January 22, 2024.

A senior police official in Dahod has said they have not yet received any information about the surrender of 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano gangrape case after the Supreme Court quashed the Gujarat government's decision to grant them remission. The convicts, however, are 'not incommunicado' and some of them are visiting relatives, Dahod Superintendent of Police Balram Meena said on January 9.

Goa police have found two empty bottles of a cough syrup in a room where the CEO of a start-up allegedly killed her four-year-old son, indicating she might have given a heavy dose of the medicine to him and that it was pre-planned murder, an official said. The accused woman, Suchana Seth, allegedly killed her son in the apartment at Candolim in Goa and stuffed the body in a bag before taking it to neighbouring Karnataka in a taxi, police said.
