ISRO released a breathtaking video of the Chandrayaan-3 mission's rover 'Pragyan' rolling down from the lander 'Vikram' to the lunar surface as observed by the lander imager camera. ISRO also released the image of the lander taken by Chandrayaan-2's Orbiter High Resolution Camera (OHRC) after it soft-landed on the Moon's surface. Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter, launched in 2019, continues to orbit the Moon.

File ImageSecurity forces recovered four firearms, 38 ammunition and eight bombs from Manipur's Imphal East and Imphal West districts during search operations. A statement issued by the Manipur Police Control Room said a total of 123 'nakas' (checkpoints) were installed in different districts of the state, both in the hill and valley and police detained 1,581 persons in connection with violations in different districts. It also appealed to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
Over 50 people were stranded in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district following a cloudburst and have been rescued by the NDRF. A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) travelled 15 km on foot to rescue the stranded people, including 15 children and shifted them to safe places. No loss of life was reported in the incident.
West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose left for Malda morning where he would be meeting family members of the workers from the district killed in the railway bridge collapse in Mizoram. Bose boarded the Yuva Express after the Vande Bharat Express, in which he was scheduled to travel to Malda this morning, was cancelled due to some technical glitches. The under-construction railway bridge in the Bairabi-Sairang new line project near Aizawl collapsed on Wednesday killing 22 workers and injuring three.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis during which they discussed ways to further deepen bilateral relations in various sectors. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Greece in the last 40 years. India and Greece enjoy civilisational ties, which have strengthened in recent years through cooperation in areas like maritime transport, defence, trade and investments and people-to-people ties.

This is the second time during his Ladakh tour that the Congress leader has raked up the border issue with China. Two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a conversation in Johannesburg, India and China offered divergent views on which side sought the engagement with Indian sources saying that a Chinese request for a bilateral meeting is pending. Prime Minister Modi and President Xi held the conversation on August 23 on the sidelines of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) summit in Johannesburg. It was their first interaction in public after their brief encounter on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Bali in November last year.
Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra needed just one big throw to qualify for the World Championships men's javelin throw final as well 2024 Paris Games by notching up his fourth career-best performance of 88.77m. The 25-year-old Chopra's qualifying round lasted just a few minutes as he sent the spear to his season's best distance in his first attempt. Competing in the same group with Chopra, DP Manu finished third with a best throw of 81.31m which he produced in his second attempt.

Former President Donald Trump returned to the social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, with a post showing his mug shot from his booking at Fulton County Jail in Georgia. Trump, who had over 88 million followers when Twitter banned him, posted a photo on Thursday of the mug shot with the words: "ELECTION INTERFERENCE! NEVER SURRENDER!" The post garnered more than 14 million views 50 minutes after going live. Twitter permanently suspended Trump’s account in January 2021, citing the risk of further incitement of violence following the storming of the US Capitol.
