Israeli forces backed by fighter jets and drones carried out a second ground raid into Gaza in as many days and struck targets on the outskirts of Gaza City, the military said, as it prepares for a widely expected ground invasion of the Hamas-ruled territory. The Palestinian death toll has soared past 7,000 as Israel has carrid out waves of devastating airstrikes in response to a bloody Hamas incursion into southern Israel on Oct 7.

US President Joe Biden ordered strikes on two facilities in Syria following attacks on US troops in the past week, the Pentagon said, warning the US will take additional measures if attacks by Iran's proxies continue. US issued a second round of sanctions on the Palestinian group Hamas following its attack this month on Israeli communities, including by targeting a Hamas official in Iran and members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Senior TMC leader and MP Mahua Moitra on Friday said she won't appear before the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee on October 31 in relation to the cash-for-query allegations levelled against her by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and instead would appear before it after November 5. Dubey and advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai gave 'oral evidence' to the panel against the Trinamul Congress MP on October 26, after which its chairperson Vinod Kumar Sonkar said the committee will also seek assistance from the ministries of home affairs and IT in probing the allegations.

NewsClick human resources department head Amit Chakravarty has moved a Delhi court seeking bail in a case lodged under the anti-terror law UAPA over allegations that the news portal received money to spread pro-China propaganda, his lawyer said. Special Judge Hardeep Kaur granted time to Delhi Police till November 4 to file reply on Chakravarty's bail application and till October 31 to reply on the application filed by Purkayastha.

As all-India average retail onion price shoots up by 57 per cent to Rs 47 per kg, the Centre decided to step up the sale of buffer onion at a subsidised rate of Rs 25 per kg in retail markets in order to provide relief to consumers. In the national capital, retail price of onion was at Rs 40/kg as against Rs 30/kg in the year-ago period, the data showed.

A parliamentary committee scrutinising three bills to replace existing criminal laws did not adopt its draft report as scheduled, taking into account the submission of some opposition members that they needed more time to study it. Sources said some Opposition members, including P Chidambaram of the Congress, had written to the committee's chairperson Brij Lal, seeking more time to study the draft report and file their views as it entailed three separate bills.

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's three children won approval of shareholders for being part of the board of Reliance Industries Ltd, setting in motion a succession plan at India's most valuable company. Company chairman Mukesh Ambani, 66, had at the company's annual shareholders meeting in August announced that his three children Akash, Isha and Anant would be inducted into Reliance's board of directors (BoD).

Delhi court extended till November 10 the judicial custody of AAP leader Sanjay Singh, arrested in a money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi excise scam. The judge also directed the jail authorities concerned to ensure proper treatment to Singh, including by his private doctor.

Teenaged armless archer Sheetal Devi became the first Indian woman to win two gold medals in a single edition of the Asian Para Games by claiming the top honours in the women's individual compound event here. Earlier this week, Sheetal won a gold in the compound mixed team event and women's doubles silver.
