Israel said no ceasefire had been implemented in southern Gaza even though security sources in Egypt said a deal had been reached to allow foreigners out of the besieged Palestinian enclave and aid to be brought in. The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, which has the largest UN footprint in the Gaza Strip, has warned that it is on the 'verge of collapse' and was even running out of body bags amidst the raging conflict between Israel and the Hamas militants.

The Supreme Court declined to permit a married woman, a mother of two, to terminate her over 26-week pregnancy as the foetus was healthy and the AIIMS medical board found no abnormality with it. The top court said the foetus is 26 weeks and 5 days old and there is no immediate threat to the mother.

Supreme Court said it will consider listing for hearing the plea of NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha and its HR head Amit Chakravarty against the Delhi High Court's rejection of their petitions challenging their arrest and police remand in a case lodged under anti-terror law UAPA. A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra took note of the submissions of senior lawyer Kapil Sibal, appearing for Purkayastha and Chakravarty, that the matter needed urgent hearing, and asked him to circulate the case papers.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived in Aizawl on a two-day visit to poll-bound Mizoram to campaign for party candidates for the November 7 assembly elections in the northeastern state. Massive crowds greeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as he undertook a padayatra in Aizawl. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi charged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was more concerned about happenings in Israel than in Manipur, which has been riven by an ethnic conflict since May this year.

The Allahabad High Court acquitted Surendra Koli and Moninder Singh Pandher in the infamous Nithari serial killings case in Noida for lack of evidence. Both had been sentenced to death on charges of rape and murder.

An Illinois man was charged with hate crimes for stabbing a 6-year-old Muslim boy to death and wounding his mother in an attack that targeted them for their religion and as a response to the war between Israel and Hamas. The suspect, Joseph Czuba, 71, was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, two counts of hate crime and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, the sheriff's office said.

Delhi High Court asked the Centre to explain the exclusion of single, unmarried women from availing the benefit of the surrogacy procedure under the law. "Why marital status for intending woman? (Even if) she (the widow or divorcee) has no matrimonial life, why this discrimination?" the bench, also comprising Justice Sanjeev Narula, asked.

Aam Aadmi Party announced it will contest assembly elections in the northeastern state of Mizoram. Addressing a press conference, party's North-East States in-charge Rajesh Sharma said a decision was made to expand the organisation and contest elections in the northeastern states during a meeting on October 15 held under the chairmanship of the AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal.

India’s largest IT services company TCS said it has fired 16 employees and barred six vendors in connection with a “recruitment scam”. “Our investigation found 19 employees to be involved…16 employees have been separated from the company for code of conduct violations, and three employees have been removed from the resource management function,” the company said in a statement.
