Israeli military says it had no involvement in an explosion that killed hundreds of people at a Gaza City hospital and that the blast was caused by a misfired Palestinian rocket. Hours after the deadly blast at the civilian hospital, Israel claimed that a lack of a crater at the blast site proves that it was not an air strike by its forces as claimed by Hamas-run Health Ministry.

President Joe Biden touched down in Israel for a diplomatic scramble to prevent the war with Hamas from spiralling into an even larger conflict, a challenge that became more difficult as outrage swept through the Middle East over an explosion that killed hundreds in a Gaza Strip hospital. US President Joe Biden said that Washington would provide Israel with everything it needed to defend itself as it wages war against the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

The Union Cabinet increased the dearness allowance and dearness relief by 4 percentage points to 46 per cent to benefit 48.67 lakh central government employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners. Railway employees will receive a bonus equivalent to their 78 days' salaries, a move that will benefit more than 11.07 lakh non-gazetted staff of the national transporter, the government announced.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi cited a media report to accuse the Adani Group of fleecing people to the tune of Rs 12,000 crore by making them pay more for electricity rates through over-invoicing of coal imports and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to order a probe and come clean on the issue. "Why is the prime minister silent on the issue…I am only helping the prime minister and asking him to come clean by starting an investigation and defend his credibility," Gandhi said.

A Delhi court convicted four people for the murder of television journalist Soumya Vishwanathan, who was shot dead 15 years ago while she was returning home from work. Madhavi Viswanathan, mother of the journalist, demanded life imprisonment for all four people convicted, saying they should suffer what her family went through.

A court in Uttar Pradesh convicted Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, his wife Tazeen Fatima and son Abdullah Azam in a 2019 fake birth certificate case, and awarded them a seven-year jail term. MP-MLA court magistrate Shobit Bansal awarded the three convicts the maximum seven-year sentence.

Lok Sabha's Ethics Committee asked BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai to appear before it for 'oral evidence' on October 26 in connection with the ruling party leader's 'cash for query' allegations against TMC MP Mahua Moitra. Moitra has also approached the Delhi High Court seeking to restrain Dubey, Dehadrai and several social media platforms and media houses from posting, circulating or publishing any alleged fake and defamatory content against her.

Elon Musk's social media platform X has begun charging a $1 fee to new users in the Philippines and New Zealand, in a test designed to cut down on the spam and fake accounts flourishing on the site formerly known as Twitter. It's not clear why it only applies to New Zealand and the Philippines or why those countries were chosen.

ICC is unlikely to take any action on Pakistan Cricket Board's complaint for alleged boorish crowd behaviour during their World Cup game against India in Ahmedabad since the ambit of the anti-discrimination code is restricted to individuals and does not cover group. A section of fans had heckled Mohammed Rizwan with religious chants when the wicket-keeper batter was waling back to pavilion following his dismissal, prompting the PCB to lodge a complaint with the game's governing body.
