Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday said the International Monetary Fund (IMF) sees India as a "bright spot" in the global economy and as per the World Bank, India is in a better position to deal with the global headwinds than many other countries.

This is because of India's strong "macroeconomic fundamentals", Modi said while virtually addressing the inaugural function of the 7th edition of Invest Madhya Pradesh-Global Investors Summit in Indore.

Hundreds of flights were grounded across the United States on Wednesday after a computer outage at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The FAA said it suffered an outage of its system that alerts pilots and crew to advisories and information for flights. "The FAA is working to restore its Notice to Air Missions System. We are performing final validation checks and reloading the system now," it said in a tweet.

Renewed efforts were made by the administration on Wednesday to persuade hoteliers and locals refusing to allow the demolition of two precariously standing hotels in subsidence-hit Joshimath in Uttarakhand.

A fresh round of talks was held between Secretary to the Chief Minister, Meenakshi Sundaram and the protesters who have been demanding compensation on the lines of Badrinath before the demolition exercise is undertaken.

SS Rajamouli's RRR struck gold at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards by winning the trophy for the best original song motion picture for its hit track Naatu Naatu.

The blockbuster Telugu movie is also nominated for the Best picture-non English at the ceremony. The Telugu track Naatu Naatu is composed by veteran music director MM Keeravaani and penned by Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj.

The AIADMK on Wednesday staged a walkout from the Tamil Nadu Assembly after raising the issue of molestation of a woman police constable by two DMK men and Chief Minister M K Stalin said swift action was taken in the matter.

Stalin hit back at the principal Opposition party over a string of serious law and order issues when the party was in power for a decade.

When Leader of Opposition, K Palaniswami tried to raise an issue concerning two men molesting a woman police constable in a ruling DMK related event here, Speaker M Appavu said they were arrested and the matter was in court.

The CBI on Wednesday launched a crackdown on alleged corruption in the Food Corporation of India, conducting searches at 50 locations in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi after arresting a DGM-ranked officer, officials said.

The role of officials from technical assistants to executive directors in the FCI are under the agency's scanner, they said.

The searches were started after the arrest of a deputy general manager (DGM) in the FCI while taking a bribe of Rs 50,000, they said.

A case has been registered against Nagarjuna Construction company (NCC), five of its officials and two of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) in connection with the collapse of an under-construction metro pillar here, which left a woman and her toddler son dead on Tuesday.

NCC is named first accused (A1), followed by its officials. A BMRCL deputy chief engineer and executive engineer are A7 and A8 respectively, police sources said. The company was the contractor that was carrying out the work.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused the BJP of spreading fear and hatred in the country, even as he asserted that India stood for "brotherhood, unity and respect" and that is why his 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' was "successful". Gandhi paid obeisance at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib before the start of the Punjab leg of the Yatra. He sported a turban and wore a half-sleeved T-shirt to the place of worship. He later also visited Rauza Sharif dargah.

Addressing a gathering at Sirhind here, the former Congress chief said, “An atmosphere of hatred and violence has been spread in the country. The BJP and the RSS people are dividing the country, pitting one religion against the other, one caste against the other, one language against the other… And they have spoiled the atmosphere of the country." "We thought the country needs to show another path which is of love, unity and brotherhood, this is why, we started this Yatra," he said.

Odisha-based artist L Eshwar Rao has carved a miniature hockey stick and ball and placed it inside a 750 ml bottle to wish 'Best of Luck' to all teams participating in the World Cup.

The World Cup Hockey tournament will be held in Odisha Capital Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from January 13 to 29.

Rao who hails from Jatni, in Khurda District claimed it took him 10 days to carve the unique sculpture on pencil nib.

French authorities responded to a knife attack on Wednesday morning at the Gare du Nord train station in Paris.

The attack took place around 6:40 a.m. local time (0540 GMT) inside the train station, France Bleu radio reported.

Gare du Nord is one of the busiest train stations inParis, with trains to northern France as well as Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK.
