US government has objected to providing defence materials to Indian national Nikhil Gupta, detained in a Czech prison on murder-for-hire charges in a foiled assassination attempt on a Khalistani extremist, saying it will provide the information only upon his appearance in a New York court and arraignment in the case. Gupta was arrested in Prague, the Czech Republic on June 30, 2023 and is being held there currently.

Huge cache of arms and explosives were seized from Manipur's Churachandpur and Tengnoupal districts, police said. Search operations were continuing in vulnerable areas of Imphal West, Kakching, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Imphal East and Churachandpur districts for arms and ammunition, police said.

An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck Afghanistan on Thursday with tremors rippling through parts of north India, the National Centre for Seismology said. The quake triggered panic among people, with many in Delhi and the National Capital Region reporting shaking of furniture.

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti had a narrow escape as her vehicle met with an accident at Sangam in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. Mufti, who was on her way to Khanabal to meet the victims of a fire incident, did not suffer any injuries.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) seized several illegal arms and ammunition, along with incriminating documents, digital devices and cash, in a massive multi-state crackdown in connection with cases relating to conspiracies and activities of the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and the Lawrence Bishnoi crime syndicate. The seizures during the searches carried out in connection with three cases included two pistols, two magazines and ammunition, along with cash amounting to Rs 4.6 lakh, besides documents and digital devices.

Indore and Surat were adjudged the 'cleanest cities' in the country while Navi Mumbai retained the third position in the Central government's annual cleanliness survey, the results of which were announced. President Droupadi Murmu gave away the awards to the winners at an event held in Delhi.

Trinamul Congress will not send its representatives for any meeting with the Congress' national alliance committee on seat-sharing for the Lok Sabha elections as it has already conveyed its position to the grand old party, TMC sources said. TMC sources said the Congress contacted party leaders for such a meeting and has been conveyed that they are not keen on sending any representative for talks.

Goa police would on January 12 take Suchana Seth, the CEO of a start-up who is accused of killing her four-year-old child, to a service apartment where she had stayed to recreate the crime scene, a senior official said. Seth (39), who heads an artificial intelligence start-up, checked in the apartment at Candolim in Goa on January 6 and stayed there till January 8.

Nepal spinner Sandeep Lamichhane was suspended by the country's cricket body after being sentenced to eight years in prison for raping an 18-year-old woman. A single-judge bench also imposed a Rs 3,00,000 fine on the 23-year-old, besides ordering him to pay a compensation of Rs 2,00,000 to the victim.
