Five Army personnel were killed and a major injured on Friday in an explosion triggered by terrorists in the thickly forested Kandi area in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district where an operation is underway to flush out terrorists, officials said.

Following the incident at Kesari area of Kandi hamlet, mobile internet services were suspended in Rajouri.

"The operations are still in progress," an Army spokesperson in Udhampur said.

A committee set up to choose the new Nationalist Congress Party chief has rejected incumbent president Sharad Pawar’s decision to step down, senior party leader Praful Patel said on Friday.

“The committee has unanimously passed a resolution. It unanimously rejects his decision to step down and urges him to continue as party president,” Patel said after a meeting of the committee.

Soon after rejecting Pawar's decision of quiting from party, NCP workers had their fair share of joyous celebration. They burst crackers, raising slogans “Ekach saheb” (there is only one boss).

The Imphal Valley in Manipur remained peaceful but tense on Friday, however intermittent gunfights between militant groups and security forces were reported from the hill districts surrounding the valley.

While on the other hand, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is closely monitoring the situation in Manipur and is in constant touch with top functionaries of the state and central governments. Meanwhile, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga took the initiative of evacuating people from the state stranded in violence-hit Manipur.

"Efforts are on to charter flights to evacuate the state's residents, especially students and employees stranded in the neighbouring state," the Mizoram chief minister said in a statement.

The Kerala High Court on Friday refused to stay the release of the controversial multi-lingual film 'The Kerala Story' and said the trailer does not contain anything offensive to any particular community as a whole.

"In view of the disclaimer also, we are not inclined to pass an interim order restraining the respondents from exhibiting the film as such. In view of the above and taking into consideration the statement made by the producer that the producer does not intend to retain the offending teaser in their social media handles, no further orders are necessary in this petition at this stage," the court said.

The CBI on Friday conducted searches at seven locations including the premises of Jet Airways and its founder Naresh Goyal in Mumbai in connection with an alleged Rs 538-crore fraud case in Canara Bank, officials said.

The company was in the process of revival after Jalan Kalrock Consortium won the bid for Jet Airways under the insolvency resolution process at National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).

India on Friday called upon the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to focus on firmly combating terrorism with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar asserting that the menace must be stopped in all its forms, including cross-border terrorism, in an apparent reference to Pakistan.

"We firmly believe that there can be no justification for terrorism and it must be stopped in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism," he said. Jaishankar said combating terrorism is one of the original mandates of the SCO.

Indian shares declined on Friday and erased weekly gains amid weakness in financials stocks due to declines in Housing Development Finance Corp and HDFC Bank, and persistent fears over the U.S. banking sector.

"The event is one-time, but the businesses of HDFC and HDFC Bank are perpetual," said Avinash Gorakshakar, head of research at Profitmart Securities, adding that the fall in the shares is temporary.

A nine-year-old full-term pregnant tigress -- MT-4 -- died at Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve (MHTR) here on Thursday, officials said.

The tigress, which was pregnant with three cubs, was suffering from severe constipation and it died in the afternoon during treatment, they said.

T-4 was the only tigress at the reserve.

The postmortem report showed that the tigress was found full-term pregnant with three dead cubs in the womb, Dr Tejendra Riyad, one of the doctors of the team that conducted the autopsy on Thursday evening, said.

India is at a "tipping point" and a major focus for Apple, the technology giant's CEO Tim Cook has said, terming the opening of its first two retail stores in the country - in Mumbai and Delhi - as a “milestone” for the company.

"Looking at the business in India, we did set a quarterly record, grew very strong, double digits year-over-year. So it was quite a good quarter for us. Taking a step back, India is an incredibly exciting market. It's a major focus for us,” Cook said.

The Delhi High Court has directed internet giant Google LLC to block or take down from YouTube certain "defamatory" videos, which targeted major brands including 'Catch' by alleging that Indian spices contain urine and cow dung, in case they resurface.

The high court said it was convinced that the creation and uploading of such videos by the defendants is a "deliberate attempt to defame and disparage" the plaintiff’s goods bearing the 'Catch' mark.
