Eight persons died and 23 army personnel went missing after a cloudburst over Lhonak Lake in north Sikkim triggered a flash flood in the Teesta River basin. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has pressed in three teams for rescue-and-relief operations. Alembic Pharmaceuticals said flash floods in the Teesta River has led to disruption in operations at its Sikkim-based manufacturing plant.
The Enforcement Directorate arrested Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. The ED raided the premises of the MP in connection with the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case. The AAP alleged that the ED has 'targeted' Sanjay Singh as he raised issues related to the Adani Group in Parliament. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the ED raids on Singh's residence showed that the BJP was resorting to desperate measures as it stares at a defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The BJP mounted a blistering attack on Kejriwal, accusing him of being the 'kingpin' of the alleged liquor policy scam and saying that 'handcuffs' are not far away.
The Enforcement Directorate has summoned actor Ranbir Kapoor for questioning on Friday in connection with Mahadev betting application money laundering case of Chhattisgarh, officials said Wednesday. The ED has asked Kapoor to appear at the Raipur office of the agency on October 6, they said.

Police registered an FIR against Shiv Sena MP Hemant Patil after he made the acting dean of a government hospital in Nanded, where 31 patients died in 48 hours, clean a dirty toilet and urinals. The Bombay High Court took suo motu (on its own) cognizance of the deaths at the state government-run hospitals at Nanded and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and sought details from the Maharashtra government. A man, whose newborn child was among the 31 patients who died at a government hospital in Maharashtra's Nanded in 48 hours, has blamed negligence by doctors for his loss.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Trinamul Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee to appear before its officers on October 9 in connection with their probe into the alleged irregularities in the West Bengal teacher recruitment scam. The probe agency also summoned Banerjee's wife Rujira for questioning on October 11, the official added.
