All 40 workers trapped after an under-construction tunnel collapsed in Uttarkashi are safe and communication has been established with them, officials said as Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached the site to oversee rescue operations. A portion of the tunnel being built between Silkyara and Dandalgaon on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri National Highway caved in on November 12 morning.

Delhi recorded a jump in pollution levels and a smoky haze returned morning after residents flouted the ban on firecrackers on Diwali night. People associated with the BJP instigated others to burn firecrackers on Diwali, leading to an overnight increase of over 100 points in the national capital's air quality index, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai alleged. Politicians traded barbs over bursting of firecrackers on Diwali in the city, with the Aam Aadmi Party accusing the BJP of encouraging people to flout SC ban on crackers.

Israeli ground forces battled Hamas militants near Gaza's largest hospital, where health officials said thousands of staff, patients and displaced people remain trapped with no electricity, dwindling supplies and some gunfire coming inside. Israel, without providing evidence, has accused Hamas of concealing a command post inside and under the hospital compound, allegations denied by Hamas and hospital staff.

A local Trinamul Congress leader was shot dead at Joynagar in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, prompting a group of people to lynch an alleged assailant, officials said. Supporters of Saifuddin Laskar, MC area president of Bamungachi, whose wife is a panchayat pradhan, caught one of the alleged assailants and beat him to death.

An 18-year-old youth was stabbed to death allegedly by a group following an altercation triggered after a photoshoot at a 'dhaba' near Doddaballapura in Bengaluru Rural district here, police said. Surya, after being stabbed in the chest, collapsed on the spot. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to stab wounds.

Chinese and Pakistani navies are holding week-long drills in the Arabian Sea during which the two all-weather allies will also conduct joint maritime patrols for the first time, a media report said. With the theme of 'joint response to maritime security threats', the exercise will include formation movement, VBSS (visit, board, search and seizure), helicopter cross-deck landing, search and rescue, anti-submarine operations,  Senior Colonel Wu Qian was quoted as saying.

Ahead of their World Cup semifinals against New Zealand, Indian left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav said Wankhede remains a tough venue for bowlers, and the hosts would require early wickets to get on top of the Kiwis. Kuldeep has played a key role in India’s spin department, taking 14 wickets from nine matches at a fine economy rate of 4.15.
