Delhi's Power department has removed the Arvind Kejriwal government's four nominees, including AAP leader Jasmine Shah, from the boards of power discoms and replaced them with senior officials, on the directions of Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena.

The action triggered a fresh confrontation between the Raj Niwas and the AAP government, with Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia terming the move "illegal, unconstitutional and contrary to the procedures" and accusing the lieutenant governor of not following the Constitution and Supreme Court orders.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said the country's regulators are very experienced and are seized of the matter relating to the Adani Group crisis.

The minister was replying to a question on the observations of the Supreme Court on public interest litigations (PILs) alleging exploitation of investors and "artificial crashing" of the Adani Group's stocks.

"I will not disclose here what the government will be saying in the court...India's regulators are very, very experienced and they are experts in their domain. The regulators are seized of this matter and they are on their toes as always, not just now," she told reporters after her customary post-Budget address to the RBI's board.

Hitting out at the BJP-led government at the Centre, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday alleged there was no freedom of speech in the country. Addressing a rally in Jharkhand's Sahebganj district, Kharge expressed anguish, claiming that parts of his speech in Parliament were expunged. 

"There is neither freedom of speech inside Parliament, nor outside...Those who dare to speak up are put behind bars," he alleged.

A US fighter jet shot down an unknown object flying at the height of about 40,000 feet off the northern coast of Alaska on orders of President Joe Biden, officials said, less than a week after the military brought down a Chinese spy balloon that had flown across America.

According to Pentagon Press Secretary Brigadier General Pat Ryder, the object, which was about the size of a small car, was first detected inside American airspace on Thursday. The object, whose origin is not known so far, posed a "reasonable threat to civilian air traffic", he said.

Lashing out at the Congress-CPI(M) alliance in Tripura, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the two parties fight ‘kushti’ (wrestling) in Kerala and have done ‘dosti’ (friendship) in the northeastern state. Making a veiled reference to Tipra Motha, Modi claimed that some other parties were also helping the opposition alliance from behind but any vote for them will take Tripura several years backward. 

“Old players of misgovernance have joined hands for ‘chanda’ (donation). Those fighting ‘kushti’ (wrestling) in Kerala have done ‘dosti’ (friendship) in Tripura,” the PM said at an election rally in Radhakishorepur in Gomati district.

Aviation safety regulator DGCA on Saturday imposed a penalty of Rs 20 lakh on Tata Group-owned budget carrier AirAsia India for violation of certain norms relating to pilots' training.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) also ordered the removal of the airline's head of training from his position for a period of three months besides imposing a fine of Rs 3 lakh each on eight Designated Examiners (DEs), as pe a statement.

India's hero in the opening Test victory over Australia here, Ravindra Jadeja was on Saturday fined 25 per cent of his match fee for applying cream on the swollen index finger of his bowling hand without taking permission from the on-field umpires on the first day of the match.

Jadeja, who returned figures of 7/81 and contributed 70 runs in the match that India won by an innings and 132 runs, was seen in a video receiving something from pace bowler Mohammed Siraj and rubbing it on his left index finger.

Search and rescue teams worked through the night, pulling more bodies from the rubble following Monday's devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria.The death toll in Turkey has risen to 20,665, the country's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said on Saturday. 

In neighboring Syria, the death toll in government and opposition-held areas stands at 3,553.

There have been 1,891 aftershocks since the first quake early on Monday, AFAD said.

The official emblem for King Charles III’s coronation, which is scheduled for May 6, was unveiled by Buckingham Palace on Saturday, featuring a circular floral design created by the acclaimed British designer behind Apple iPhone designs.

The emblem by Sir Jony Ive, who was previously the Chief Design Officer at tech firm Apple and holds more than 14,000 patents worldwide, is from his creative collective “LoveFrom” and symbolises the historic beginning of the new reign – dubbed the UK's Carolean era.
