Mungeshpur in Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 52.3 degrees Celsius highest-ever for the national capital, an India Meteorological Department official said as the severe heatwave gripping North India continued unabated. The national capital is facing water shortage due to unprecedented summer heat with temperatures hovering around the 50 degrees Celsius mark in parts of the city.

A young man and a teenaged boy were killed and a woman was injured after they were hit by an SUV that was allegedly part of the motorcade of Karan Bhushan Singh, the BJP candidate from Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh. Additional Superintendent of Police Radhey Shyam Rai said that the accused driver, Lavkush Srivastav, 30, has been taken into custody.

Delhi High Court granted bail to student activist Sharjeel Imam in connection with a 2020 communal riots case involving allegations of sedition and unlawful activities. According to the prosecution, Imam allegedly made speeches at Jamia Millia Islamia on December 13, 2019 and at the Aligarh Muslim University on December 16, 2019 where he threatened to cut off Assam and the rest of the North East from the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged that the Trinamul Congress government in West Bengal was giving away the rights of "original" OBCs to Muslims by issuing "false caste certificates". "To appease a section, the TMC government is openly attacking the Constitution, which has given reservations to Dalits and backward castes. But an open loot of reservations happened in West Bengal... false OBC certificates were issued to Muslims," he alleged.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said suspended JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna, who is facing charges of sexually abusing several women, will be arrested as soon as he arrives at the airport in Bengaluru. According to official sources, the Hassan MP has booked a return flight ticket to Bengaluru from Munich on May 30, and is expected to land in the city in the small hours of May 31.

Pakistan's key ally China has been actively bolstering the defence capabilities of the Pakistani army along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir over the past three years which includes the construction of steelhead bunkers and the provision of Unmanned Aerial and Combat Aerial Vehicles, officials said. Moreover, advanced radar systems of Chinese origin, such as the 'JY' and 'HGR' series, have been deployed to enhance medium and low altitude target detection capabilities, providing crucial intelligence support for army and air defence units, they said.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's close aide Bibhav Kumar moved the Delhi High Court challenging his arrest in connection with the alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal at the CM's residence earlier this month. He also sought "appropriate compensation" for his "illegal" arrest and initiation of departmental action against the erring officials who were involved in the decision making of his arrest.

Women booking tickets in an IndiGo flight can now know about the seats that have already been booked by other female passengers at the time of web check-in, with the airline introducing the new feature after a market research. In a release, the airline said it has introduced a new feature that aims to make the travel experience more comfortable for female passengers.
