Mungeshpur in Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 52.3 degrees Celsius highest-ever for the national capital, an India Meteorological Department official said as the severe heatwave gripping North India continued unabated. The national capital is facing water shortage due to unprecedented summer heat with temperatures hovering around the 50 degrees Celsius mark in parts of the city.
A young man and a teenaged boy were killed and a woman was injured after they were hit by an SUV that was allegedly part of the motorcade of Karan Bhushan Singh, the BJP candidate from Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh. Delhi High Court granted bail to student activist Sharjeel Imam in connection with a 2020 communal riots case involving allegations of sedition and unlawful activities. According to the prosecution, Imam allegedly made speeches at Jamia Millia Islamia on December 13, 2019 and at the Aligarh Muslim University on December 16, 2019 where he threatened to cut off Assam and the rest of the North East from the country.
