Supreme Court imposed an interim stay on an order of the Allahabad High Court that declared the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madrasa Education Act, 2004, 'unconstitutional' and violative of the principle of secularism. "The object and purpose of Madrasa board is regulatory in nature and the Allahabad HC is not prima facie correct that establishment of board will breach secularism," the bench, also comprising Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, said.

Right to apprenticeship, a legal guarantee for MSP, and passing a constitutional amendment to raise the 50 per cent cap on reservations for SCs, STs and OBCs are among the promises made by the Congress in its manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls released. In the document titled Nyay Patra, the Opposition party said it would implement 10 per cent quota in jobs, educational institutions for economically weaker sections (EWS) for all castes, communities without discrimination if it comes to power.

Reserve Bank of India kept the benchmark interest rates unchanged at 6.5 per cent for the seventh time in a row, citing concerns over food inflation in view of IMD's prediction of above normal maximum temperatures during April to June. While unveiling the first bi-monthly monetary policy for the current financial year, RBI has retained its growth and inflation forecast for the current fiscal at 7 per cent and 4.5 per cent respectively.

Supreme Court issued a notice to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on a plea by the AAP government alleging non-release of funds to the body which is responsible for supplying potable water to the national capital. The bench said it wanted to know about the outstanding funds from the water utility itself.

Congress in Kerala approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) against the decision of Doordarshan to telecast the controversial movie 'The Kerala Story', saying it was a 'tacit effort' to divide society on religious grounds to further the electoral prospects of the ruling BJP. Doordarshan has announced that the movie will be broadcast on April 5.

A court in Delhi allowed the CBI to interrogate BRS leader K Kavitha, arrested in the Delhi excise policy case, in Tihar jail. Kavitha had urged the court on March 4 for enlarging her on interim bail on account of her 16-year-old son's exams for which he needed his mother's 'moral and emotional support'.

Supreme Court granted bail to Shoma Kanti Sen, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case. Pronouncing the order, a bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and Augustine George Masih directed that, among other conditions, Sen shall not leave the state of Maharashtra without the leave of the special court.

Dropping references to the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, the killing of Muslims in Gujarat riots and Hindutva, and tweaking the reference to Manipur's merger with India are among the latest set of revisions made public by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in its textbooks. According to a document detailing the changes prepared by the curriculum drafting committee of the NCERT, the references to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement have been tweaked 'as per latest development in politics'.

Apple is laying off more than 600 workers in California, marking the company's first big wave of post-pandemic job cuts amid a broader wave of tech industry consolidation. The workers were cut from eight offices in Santa Clara, according to the filings under the state's Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, also known as WARN.
