JMM legislature party leader Champai Soren took oath as the chief minister of Jharkhand. The Champai Soren-led coalition government will seek trust vote on February 5, minister Alamgir Alam said after a Cabinet meeting.

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was remanded to five days' Enforcement Directorate custody by a special PMLA court Ranchi in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged land fraud, lawyers said. Earlier, in a setback to Hemant Soren, the Supreme Court refused to interfere with his arrest by the ED asked him to approach the high court.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal did not appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in an alleged money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy, according to the AAP. Terming the summons 'illegal', the party said the ED is repeatedly sending notices to Kejriwal to arrest him.

Opposition parties led by the Congress walked out from the Rajya Sabha over the Jharkhand governor not making interim arrangements for governance in the state after JMM leader Hemant Soren resigned as chief minister. Leader of the Opposition in the House and Congress president Mallikharjun Kharge drew parallels with the happenings in neighbouring Bihar just a week back when Nitish Kumar had resigned as chief minister, his resignation being immediately accepted, he being asked to continue till a new government was formed and again being sworn-in as the chief minister, all in a matter of 12 hours.

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee began a dharna in Calcutta, demanding the state's 'dues' from the Centre for various social welfare schemes. Banerjee along with leaders of her party, the TMC, started the demonstration in front of the BR Ambedkar's statue in the Maidan area in the heart of the city.

Delhi High Court allowed expelled Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra to withdraw her petition challenging the eviction notice issued by the Directorate of Estates (DoE) asking her to vacate the government accommodation allotted to her. The TMC leader moved out of the government bungalow on January 19 after the high court refused to grant her any interim relief.

Allahabad High Court did not give any immediate relief to the Gyanvapi Masjid committee which had challenged the order of the Varanasi court allowing Hindu prayers in a cellar of the mosque. The Anzuman Intezamia Masjid Committee had moved the high court within hours of the Supreme Court refusing to hear their plea against the Varanasi district court's order and asking them to approach the high court.

Digital payments and services app Paytm is working and will continue to work as usual even after February 29, its CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma said. RBI has barred Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL) from accepting deposits or top-ups in any customer account, prepaid instruments, wallets, and FASTags, among others after February 29, 2024.

Top Tamil actor Vijay announced launching a political party, 'Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam,' and said he will contest the 2026 Assembly polls in the state. Vijay said his party will not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, nor would it support anyone, as decided in its recently held General Council and Executive Council meetings.

Police in the US are investigating the death of an Indian-American student in the state of Ohio, the fourth such case within a month in the country. The Consulate General of India in New York said that no foul play is suspected at this stage in the death of Shreyas Reddy Benigeri, a student of the Lindner School of Business, Cincinnati.
