The Centre has opposed pleas in Supreme Court seeking recognition of same-sex marriage. In its counter-affidavit in the Supreme Court, the Centre said decriminalisation of Section 377 IPC cannot give rise to a claim to seek recognition for same-sex marriage, according to media reports.

The submission by the Centre comes a day ahead of the SC's hearing on a batch of pleas seeking legal validation for same-sex marriages on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the 118 Km long Bangalore-Mysore Expressway project here. It will reduce the travel time between the two cities from around three hours to about 75 minutes, according to officials.

The Rs 8,480 crore project involved six-laning of the Bengaluru-Nidaghatta-Mysuru section of NH-275 and will act as a catalyst for socio-economic development in the region, they said.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav has dubbed as "rumours" the claim of the Enforcement Directorate that proceeds of crime amounting to Rs 600 crore were detected during searches on premises owned by him and close family members.

The RJD leader, who is currently away in Delhi, also said the BJP will be left embarrassed if he made public the "panchnama" (seizure list) signed after the raids.

The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's daughter K Kavitha again on March 16 for questioning in connection with Delhi liquor policy case, according to media.

Kavitha left the ED office in the national capital after being questioned for almost nine hours by the ED on Saturday.

The Delhi Police on Sunday said it will question the estranged wife of the owner of the farmhouse, where actor-filmmaker Satish Kaushik attended a party a day before his death, following her allegation that her husband "was planning to get rid" of him.

In a complaint addressed to the Delhi Police commissioner, the woman alleged that her husband had borrowed Rs 15 crore from Kaushik and did not wish to return it.

Virat Kohli scored his first Test hundred after a gap of more than three years as India reached 472 for five at tea on day four of the fourth and final Test here on Sunday.

At the break, Kohli was batting on 135 and had Axar Patel (38 batting, 75 balls) for company.

Britain has recorded a spike in Indians crossing over illegally into the country across the English Channel last year, when a total of 683 largely Indian men were reported to have landed on its shores via small boats.

This figure, according to the latest UK Home Office "Irregular Migration to the UK" statistics for the year ending December 2022, shows a progressive rise from the 67 Indian nationals recorded to have crossed over in small boats in 2021, 64 in 2020 and none in 2019 and 2018.

The Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden, Asia's largest tulip garden, ensconced between Dal Lake and the Zabarwan hills here is in full bloom and ready to welcome tourists from next week.

"Preparations like gardening, engineering, fungicide treatment, nutrient spraying and minor repair which we do before the tulip show are going on," Inam-ul-Rehman, in-charge of the tulip garden, told PTI.
