Delhi BJP leaders and workers on Saturday staged a protest at the AAP office here demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after the ED named him in a charge sheet in the excise scam case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has named Kejriwal in its charge sheet related to the liquor scam of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and he should resign from the post of chief minister of Delhi, state BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said.

India's economic image is not affected due to Adani Group's recent decision to pull out Rs 20,000 crore FPO amid allegations of financial wrongdoings, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Saturday. 

The finance minister said there has been an accretion of USD 8 billion to the forex reserves in the last two days alone. 

The minister said there are "fluctuations" in every market but the accretion over the last few days establishes the fact that the perception of both India and its inherent strengths is intact.

A transgender couple in Kerala has announced pregnancy, in possibly the first such case in the country, and are expecting their child in March.

Ziya Paval, a dancer, took to Instagram and announced that her partner, Zahhad, is now eight months pregnant.

They have been together for the past three years. They both were undergoing hormone therapy to change their genders but halted that for the purpose of having the baby.

A court here on Saturday discharged student activists Sharjeel Imam and Asif Iqbal Tanha in the Jamia violence case.  Additional Sessions Judge Arul Verma discharged them in a case registered at the Jamia Nagar police station in 2019.

A court discharged 11 people in the Jamia Nagar violence case, saying as the Delhi Police was unable to apprehend the actual perpetrators, it booked the accused as "scapegoats".

The court said the legal proceedings against the 11 accused were initiated in a "perfunctory and cavalier fashion" and "allowing them to undergo the rigmarole of a long-drawn trial does not augur well for the criminal justice system of the country".

A second Chinese spy balloon has been spotted, this time in the skies over Latin America, the Pentagon has said, a day after another one of the size of three buses and carrying a "large" payload was seen in US skies that prompted US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to postpone his planned visit to China.

The Chinese balloon, of the size of three buses, laced with a significant number of payloads will probably be over the United States for a few days, the Pentagon said on Friday asserting that it has surveillance capabilities.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday claimed that demographic change in Jharkhand has seen the percentage of ‘Adivasi’ (tribal) population declining during the Hemant Soren government’s tenure in power.

Addressing a BJP rally here, the senior party leader claimed that the population of Adivasis has deceased from 35 per cent to 24 per cent due to massive infiltration from across the international border.

Democratic Azad Party (DAP) chief Ghulam Nabi Azad Saturday demanded a formal order from the Raj Bhavan to spare the poor in the ongoing anti-encroachment drive.

"I met Union Home minister Amit Shah and requested him that poor people should not be evicted from their houses, or poor shopkeepers from their shops through which they earn their livelihoods. The J-K LG has also given a statement that the poor will be spared… So, we have decided to postpone our agitation on their assurances," Azad said, addressing his party workers at Sonwar here.

Five people were killed and three injured on Friday when their car lost control and overturned before colliding with another car on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in this district, officials said.

Circle Officer of Bangarmau Pankaj Singh said, "A speeding car moving towards Lucknow lost control and overturned near 266 kilometers mark on the expressway. The car collided with another car coming from the opposite direction in the other lane." "The car occupants were heading towards Lucknow. Five of them died on the spot. Their bodies were recovered from the wreckage and sent for post-mortem," the CO said.

Veteran singer Vani Jayaram who has sung over 10,000 songs in 19 languages including the very popular Hindi number 'bole re papihara' died here on Saturday as reported by PTI. She was 77 and was living all alone at a downtown apartment. Her husband predeceased her and she has no children.

The singer's maid turned up as usual for work on Saturday. However, she did not get any response despite repeatedly pressing the calling bell. Immediately, she alerted the singer's relatives who informed police. In the presence of Vani Jayaram's relatives, police broke open the door and found her dead.
