Bilkis Bano on Wednesday challenged the remission of sentence and release of convicts in the 2002 rape and murder case filing a plea before the Supreme Court.

The top court said it will consider listing the matter for hearing.

A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha took note of the submissions of lawyer Shobha Gupta that the victim herself has challenged the grant of remission and release of the convicts, and the matter be listed for hearing.

The Senate passed bipartisan legislation on Tuesday to protect same-sex marriages, an extraordinary sign of shifting national politics on the issue and a measure of relief for the hundreds of thousands of same-sex couples who have married since the Supreme Court's 2015 decision that legalized gay marriage nationwide.

The bill, which would ensure that same-sex and interracial marriages are enshrined in federal law, was approved 61-36 on Tuesday, including support from 12 Republicans.

A suicide bomber from the banned Pakistani Taliban blew himself up near a patrolling police truck carrying security personnel to protect polio workers in the restive Balochistan province on Wednesday, killing at least four people and injuring 26 others, including 23 policemen.

The attacker targeted the paramilitary Constabulary truck in Quetta's Baleli area, which was going to provide security to polio workers at the ongoing drive.

China on Wednesday said it was opposed to the joint Indo-US military exercises being held near the Line of Actual Control (LAC), asserting that it violates the spirit of the two border agreements signed between New Delhi and Beijing.

The 18th edition of the India-US joint military exercise 'Yudh Abhyas' is currently underway in Uttarakhand, about 100 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The ED has arrested businessman Amit Arora in connection with its money laundering probe into alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy case, official sources said Wednesday.

Arora is the director of Buddy Retail Pvt Limited located in Gurugram. This is the sixth arrest in this case by the Enforcement Directorate.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday visited a primary school here in North 24 Parganas district, and interacted with children.

Mamata also distributed chocolates and soft toys among the students. She later handed over winter garments to the locals of Khapukur in Hasnabad.

The West Bengal government also announced the extension of 'Duare Sarkar', social outreach camps about its various projects, till December 5.

As per the earlier notification issued in September, the Duare Sarkar camps (government at your door step) were being held from November 1 to November 30.

The Earth Observation Satellite-06 launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation on November 26 has started serving images, the national space agency said on Wednesday.

Bangalore-headquartered ISRO shared on Twitter the first-day images received on Tuesday at National Remote Sensing Centre, Shadnagar, Telangana, covering the Himalayan region, Kutch region of Gujarat and the Arabian sea.

Eminent industrialist and Toyota Kirloskar Motor Vice-Chairman Vikram S Kirloskar, who was instrumental in bringing Japanese auto major Toyota to India, died due to a heart attack on Tuesday.

Last respects can be paid to him at the Hebbal Crematorium, Bengaluru, at 1 pm on Wednesday it added.

The Sikkim Police have detained four persons for allegedly carrying sharp weapons during former chief minister and Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) supremo Pawan Kumar Chamling's padayatra in Pakyong district two days ago.

The four persons were picked from various places on Tuesday evening with sharp weapons which they carried during Chamling's padayatra in Rongli town, a police officer said.

Drishyam 2", fronted by Ajay Devgn, has raised more than Rs 150 crore at the domestic box office, the makers said on Friday.

Production banner Panorama Studios shared the latest box office figures of the suspense thriller movie, which opened to positive reviews upon its release on November 18.

"Drishyam 2" also features actors Shriya Saran, Tabu, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta and Akshaye Khanna.
