West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) Chairman Siddharth Majumder said it will challenge the Calcutta High Court order cancelling all appointments made through a 2016 teacher recruitment test. Calcutta High Court ordered cancellation of all appointments made through the recruitment process of the State Level Selection Test-2016 (SLST) in West Bengal government-sponsored and aided schools, declaring it as 'null and void'.

Taking note of 'exceptional' circumstances, the Supreme Court permitted a 14-year-old rape survivor to undergo medical termination of her almost 30-week pregnancy, saying the welfare of the minor was of 'paramount importance'. At the outset, the bench, which took up the plea as the first item, observed, "We will allow the medical termination since she is 14-year-old and it is a rape case. This is an exceptional case."

Launching a strong campaign over the Prime Minister's alleged communal remarks against its manifesto, the Congress said that party chief Mallikarjun Kharge has sought an appointment with Narendra Modi to 'educate him' about its poll promise document. K C Venugopal said the Congress party will also file a petition against Modi before the election commission with the signature of one lakh people.

BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal was elected unopposed from Surat Lok Sabha constituency in Gujarat after all other nominees withdrew from the fray, a poll official said. Voting for all 26 constituencies in Gujarat is scheduled for May 7, but with the result of Surat seat already out, polling will be held on 25 seats.

AAP sources claimed Delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has written to Tihar jail superintendent saying he has been asking for insulin daily amid spike in sugar levels. In the letter written to the superintendent, he accused the jail administration of 'lying' under 'political pressure', the sources said.

Election Commission of India has ordered repolling in eight polling stations in Arunachal Pradesh where EVM damage and violence were reported during polling to simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls on April 19, an official said. The polling stations where repoll would be held include, Sario in Bameng assembly constituency in East Kameng district, Longte Loth under Nyapin assembly seat in Kurung Kumey, Dingser, Bogiya Siyum, Jimbari and Lengi polling booths under Nacho constituency in Upper Subansiri district.

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu's political party won 70 seats and secured a 'super majority' in parliamentary elections, seen as a strong endorsement of his pro-Beijing foreign policy, as both India and China closely watched the polls amidst regional power dynamics in the archipelago nation, preliminary results suggested. The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), led by former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who is seen as a pro-India leader, held 65 seats in the previous parliament but won only 15 seats this time, Mihaaru, a news website, reported.
