An alliance with the Congress will happen in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said, days after his party said he would join Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra only if its seat-sharing proposal for the Lok Sabha polls is accepted. On February 19, the SP had said it offered 17 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh to the Congress.

The Haryana Police fired tear gas shells to disperse farmers from Punjab at Shambhu and Khanauri border points as they tried to move towards barricades stalling their protest march to Delhi. Their 'Delhi Chalo' march began on February 13 and since then, farmers are gathered at the border points along with their tractor-trolleys, mini-vans and pickup trucks.

Mamata Banerjee-led government has surpassed the erstwhile CPI(M) dispensation in subjecting the people of West Bengal to atrocities, the BJP claimed, saying the public will give a befitting reply to the ruling TMC in the Lok Sabha elections. Senior BJP leader and former Union minister Ravi Shakar Prasad also slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for 'defending' such incidents in the state, questioning her conscience and that of other opposition parties.

Congress alleged that the Income Tax department has 'withdrawn' a sum of Rs 65 crore from its accounts in different banks 'undemocratically' even when the case pertaining to their return for previous years is sub judice. Party treasurer Ajay Maken has claimed that 'democracy will be over if the action of probe agencies goes unchecked' and said the Congress has full faith in the judiciary.

Centre told the Supreme Court the expert committee headed by former law secretary T K Vishwanathan has submitted its report on proposed reforms in the arbitration sector to the law ministry. Taking note of the submission, a bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud asked the AG to share the report with the parties concerned.

Manipur government extended the suspension of internet services in Churachandpur district for five days in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the district, following violence over an action taken against a policeman. The government had first imposed a temporary suspension on internet services on February 16.

Mumbai police have registered a case after Bollywood actor Vidya Balan complained that someone was impersonating her using a fake Instagram account and email id and cheating people from the film industry, an official said. The message claimed that the sender was Vidya Balan who wanted to discuss work with him.

India and China agreed to maintain 'peace and tranquillity' on the ground in border areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh during a fresh round of high-level military talks earlier this week. The 21st round of the India-China corps commander level meeting was held at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on February 19, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

Security has been tightened in the Jharkhand capital after US-based designated terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun threatened to disrupt the fourth Test match between India and England here, officials said. The fourth Test will commence at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi from February 23.
