Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israeli forces had unleashed the second phase of the Gaza war as they pressed ground operations against Hamas militants, vowing to 'destroy the enemy above ground and below ground.' Netanyahu took a jab at his intelligence chiefs, saying they never warned him Hamas was planning its wide-scale attack on Oct. 7 and causing a political uproar and a rift within his war cabinet.

Thirty-six people were injured and one woman died in the blast at a convention centre of a Christian religious group in Kalamassery in Kochi, the Ernakulam District Collector said. The blast was caused due to an improvised explosive device (IED), state DGP Shaik Darvesh Saheb said. Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and took stock of the situation, sources said. Security was beefed-up around churches and at metro stations in the national capital in the wake of the Kerala convention centre blast.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi promised free treatment facility up to Rs 10 lakh to the poor people under an existing health assistance scheme in Chhattisgarh if his party retains power in the state. Gandhi helped some cultivators at a village near Raipur in harvesting paddy and said the pro-farmer 'model' of his party's government in Chhattisgarh will be replicated across India.

The Opposition CPI(M) held demonstrations in different parts of Calcutta, alleging large-scale corruption in the state's public distribution system, in connection with which minister Jyotipriya Mullick was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate. Mullick, 66, who held the food and supplies portfolio from 2011 to 2021, is at present the state's forest minister.

The Special Task Force of the Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested 10 people for allegedly using unfair means in the Preliminary Eligibility Test organised by the state's Subordinate Services Selection Commission, an official said. According to a press statement issued by the STF on October 28, the accused were found using unfair means, including Bluetooth devices, during the exam.

Residents of Charangaon in Maharashtra's Akola district on Sunday said they have banned the entry of political leaders into the village till Maratha quota is declared in the state. The Maratha and Dhangar communities must be given reservation in jobs and education without impacting such benefits of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, said Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray.
