Twenty eight legislators, including former Union minister Prahlad Patel and BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, were inducted into the Madhya Pradesh cabinet led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. Governor Mangubhai Patel administered the oath of office and secrecy to the ministers at a function held in the Raj Bhawan in Bhopal.

A spokesperson for Iran's foreign ministry called a US claim that Iran had attacked a chemical ship near India 'baseless'. "The motor vessel CHEM PLUTO, a Liberia-flagged, Japanese-owned, and Netherlands-operated chemical tanker was struck at approximately 10 a.m. local time (6 a.m. GMT) today in the Indian Ocean, 200 nautical miles from the coast of India, by a one-way attack drone fired from Iran," a Pentagon spokesperson said.

PDP claimed that party president Mehbooba Mufti was placed under house arrest ahead of her scheduled visit to Surankote in Pooch district where three civilians died allegedly in Army custody. Four soldiers lost their lives when their vehicles were ambushed by terrorists at Dhatyar Morh between Dhera Ki Gali and Buffliaz in the Surankote area of Poonch on December 21.

Karnataka Minister for Sugar and Agriculture Marketing Shivanand Patil's statement that farmers wish for repeated droughts in the state so that their loans get waived has caused a stir, with the opposition terming it as an 'affront' to the farming community and seeking his removal from the Ministry. Patil had in September stoked a controversy for his statement that cases of farmer suicides started rising after the compensation amount to the kin of the deceased was hiked from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.

As many as eight flights were diverted from the Delhi airport due to bad weather, an official said. A total of seven flights were diverted to Jaipur in Rajasthan and one was diverted to Ahmedabad in Gujarat, the official said.

A four-month-old boy succumbed to the injuries sustained after an 'attack' by a stray dog in a hut at Shaikpet area, officials said. As per information, three stray dogs went near the hut and one of the stray canines went inside the hut which had no door and bit the boy on the face and forehead, a civic official said.
