Four children under the age of 12 are among the 27 persons killed and three others injured in the massive fire that swept through the game zone in Rajkot teeming with people enjoying a summer vacation outing. A special bench of the Gujarat High Court took suo motu cognizance of the fire incident and said it was prima facie a 'man-made disaster'.

A massive fire broke out at a private children's hospital in east Delhi's Vivek Vihar, leaving seven newborns dead. The officials of the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said the blaze broke out at the Baby Care New Born Hospital at around 11:30 pm on May 25 and soon spread to two other adjacent buildings.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the incident site at Nana-Mava road and a hospital where the injured persons were admitted. A stock of highly inflammable materials such as petrol, fibres and fibre glass sheets were stored at the Rajkot game zone where the fire occurred.

Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena directed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to 'institute an inquiry' into the children's hospital blaze. Five babies are undergoing treatment at another hospital.

Members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) held a meeting with local administration in Gujarat's Rajkot city in connection with the fire. The bodies were charred beyond recognition. The DNA samples of the bodies and the victim's relatives have been collected for identification of the deceased, they said.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has deployed a team to probe into the fire incident at the private children's hospital in east Delhi. Ravi Gupta, a local resident, said some locals climbed from the back side of the building and evacuated children one by one.

The owner and manager of the game zone have been arrested, officials said. The five-member SIT formed by the state government, to conduct a probe into the incident and submit a report within 72 hours.

Vinod Kumar, father of one of the newborn babies who were admitted at the Baby Care New Born Hospital after birth, cries after a fire broke out at the hospital. Oxygen cylinders kept in the two-storey building of the children's hospital in Delhi exploded due to which the adjacent buildings were damaged, Divisional Fire Officer Rajendra Atwal said.

The exact cause of the massive fire at Rajkot is not yet known. The CM has announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of each of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to each injured.

A fire official said two boutiques, a portion of IndusInd Bank operating from an adjacent building and a shop on the ground floor were also damaged besides an ambulance and a scooty parked outside the building. The bodies have been shifted to the GTB Hospital for postmortem, police said.
