Jammu, which had been relatively terror-free over the past two decades until 2021, has witnessed a spate of militant attacks this year, hinting at a shift in the terror terrain from the Kashmir Valley.
A total of 17 civilians and 10 security personnel have been killed in terror attacks in the first seven months of this year, against 14 civilians and 30 security personnel in the whole of 2023.
Here are some of the attacks in Jammu and Kashmir on security forces in the past 72 days since April 28:
Udhampur, April 28
A village defence guard killed in a gunfight with militants.
Poonch, May 4
One soldier killed and four injured when militants struck an IAF convoy.
Kathua and Doda, June 9 to 12
A CRPF jawan died in Kathua and seven security personnel injured in Doda in four back-to-back militant attacks. The jawan was killed in an operation that followed the killing of nine pilgrims by terrorists who struck a bus on June 9.
Doda, June 9
One constable injured at Kota Top when terrorists attacked a police party.
Doda, June 11
Five army personnel and a police officer injured in a terror attack at Chattargala. Bhaderwah, when a joint security picket of the police and army was targeted.
Kulgam, July 6
Two soldiers including a para-commando killed in separate encounters with militants in the south Kashmir villages of Chinigam and Modergam.
Rajouri, July 7
A soldier suffered bullet injuries when militants fired on an army post.
Kathua, July 8
Five soldiers, including a junior commissioned officer, killed and five injured when militants ambushed an army convoy.
