The main bridge was washed away in the landslides on Tuesday, leaving Mundakkai marooned. The disaster was the worst in Kerala since the deadly floods of 2018. Experts said the area had received heavy rain in the last two weeks that softened the soil before extremely heavy rainfall on Monday triggered the landslides.
