Holocaust Memorial Day 2023: History, meaning and theme

The UN General Assembly declared January 27 as the International Holocaust Remembrance Day on 1 November 2005, remembering the millions of lives lost to genocide. This date also marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp. This year's theme for Holocaust is remembrance and education: 'Home and belonging'
