Two junior doctors of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital check a patient at the Abhaya Clinic on Sunday, August 31, in Kumartuli. The clinic offers free OPD services. The junior doctors of RG Kar came forward to provide medical care and attention to patients after it was pointed out that poor people who depend on government healthcare hubs were suffering due to the doctors’ protest over the rape-murder of their young colleague on August 9.
At the Abhaya Clinic, junior doctors listen to patients’ issues. These doctors, part of Bengal's large group of 8,000 to 10,000 junior doctors, initially continued to work in emergency departments on August 9 and 10.
Even small children come to receive treatment at the Abhaya Clinic. The clinic is open to everyone, and junior doctors ensure that kids are cared for just as attentively as adults.
A doctor’s diary page shows that more than 200 calls were received in the Abhaya Clinic’s telemedicine facility, also started by the RG Kar Junior Doctors, on Saturday, the first day, and the response more than doubled the following day.
