The downpour has led to overflowing rivers, submerged roads, and waterlogged localities, prompting authorities to issue alerts and implement emergency measures. Reservoir overflow in Mumbai

Adding to the challenging weather conditions, the IMD also warned of occasional gusty winds that could reach speeds of 50-60 kmph. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated on weather alerts.

This affected numerous commuters who rely on public transport.

Railway services affected

The flooding affected several housing societies and low-lying areas, with cars and two-wheelers submerged in water.

Red alert for Pune district

Casualties in Pune

In a heart-wrenching incident, three men lost their lives due to electrocution in the Deccan area of the city. They were attempting to move their submerged handcart to a safer location when the accident occurred. In a separate incident, one person died in a landslide in the Tamhini ghat section of Mulshi tehsil.

Pavana river bridge closure in Pimpri Chinchwad 

The heavy rains have caused a sudden rise in the water level of the Pavana River, which flows through Pimpri Chinchwad city. As a result, the only bridge over the Pavana River near Birla Hospital has been completely closed to traffic. Water has started flowing over the bridge, making it unsafe for vehicles and pedestrians. The Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic Police Department has issued an appeal to citizens, asking them to use alternative routes to reach Dange Chowk until the water recedes from the bridge. This closure is likely to cause significant traffic diversions and potential congestion on alternate routes. Additionally, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has instructed citizens living along the river to remain alert due to the rising water levels.

Water cut withdrawn in Mumbai 

In a positive development for Mumbai residents, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation announced the withdrawal of the previously imposed 10 percent water cut, effective from July 29. This decision was made possible due to the satisfactory rainfall in the catchment areas of lakes supplying water to the city. The water stock in these lakes saw a substantial increase of 61 percent between July 1 and July 25. Despite this improvement, the BMC continued to urge citizens to use water judiciously.

Maharashtra requests water release from Karnataka

The request was to increase the water discharge from Almatti dam to three lakh cusec. This step was deemed necessary due to the rapid increase in water levels in various dams within Maharashtra, including the Koyna dam, which saw its storage increase by six thousand million cubic feet in a very short period. The coordination between the two states is crucial for managing water levels and preventing potential disasters.

School closures in Raigad and Palghar
