Floods in Tripura displace thousands; PM Modi assures full support to people, says CM Manik Saha

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said the unprecedented floods in the state have caused an estimated loss of Rs 15,000 crore, affecting infrastructure, agriculture, and other property. At least 26 people died due to the floods while 1.28 lakh have taken shelters in 557 relief camps. The government has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each for the bereaved families and Rs 2.5 lakh for those injured in the floods.

At least 26 persons have died and 1.17 lakh people have been rendered homeless in Tripura due to devastating floods since August 19.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to him about the flood situation in the state and assured him of full support to the people to tide over the crisis.

"Spoke to Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji spelling out all the details of the flood situation in the state. He assured of full support to the people of Tripura in this hour of crisis. We are extremely grateful to Hon'ble Prime Minister for his kind gesture to the people of Tripura," Saha wrote on X.

Saha mentioned that restoration and relief efforts are in full swing and directed the food and civil supplies minister Sushanta Chowdhury to prevent price rise, reassuring the public that there is ample stock of food and fuel and that the government will monitor markets closely.

Saha praised opposition parties for their cooperative approach during this challenging period. BJP state chief spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for his handling of the situation and commended his decision to convene an all-party meeting to update political leaders on the government's response.
