Zero Day, a high-stakes political drama marking Robert De Niro’s first foray into OTT, will drop on Netflix on February 20 next year, the streamer announced on Wednesday.
The thriller, a six-episode series, stars De Niro as George Mullen, a former U.S. president drawn back into the political arena to lead the investigation of a catastrophic cyber attack.
The storyline follows Mullen’s return to public service as head of the ‘Zero Day Commission’, tasked with uncovering the truth behind a devastating global cyber attack that has resulted in mass chaos and numerous fatalities. The series explores themes of disinformation, political ambition and national security, as Mullen navigates intense pressure to protect the country at all costs.
Zero Day is helmed by acclaimed storytellers Eric Newman (of Narcos fame) and Noah Oppenheim, who serve as writers and executive producers. Homeland director Lesli Linka Glatter helms all six episodes and joins De Niro, Michael S. Schmidt, and Jonathan Glickman as an executive producer.
Zero Day boasts an ensemble cast, with Black Panther actress Angela Bassett portraying President Mitchell, a politically astute leader with strong ties to Mullen. Fargo actor Jesse Plemons takes on the role of Roger Carlson, Mullen’s former aide-turned-political fixer, eager to reassert his influence.
The ensemble cast also features Lizzy Caplan, Joan Allen, Connie Britton, Dan Stevens, and Matthew Modine. Guest stars include Bill Camp, Gaby Hoffmann, Clark Gregg and McKinley Belcher III.
