Veteran actress Zeenat Aman has said that it fills her with “sadness and anger” when she hears about parents “rejecting” their children for their sexual orientation and choice of partner.

“When I hear of people rejecting their kids for reasons such as their sexual orientation, choice of partner or desired profession, it fills me with sadness and anger. We must accept our children for the individuals they are and support them to meet life as they choose to,” the 71-year-old wrote on Instagram alongside a throwback picture of her with her two sons — Zahaan Khan and Azaan Khan.

The photo was taken in 1990 by the late Gautam Rajadhyaksha at the now demolished Searock Hotel in Bandra.

The Don actress, who has been a single parent to Zahaan and Azaan since the demise of her second husband Mazhar Khan in 1998, also wrote about her approach towards motherhood in the long Instagram post shared on Monday.

“My approach to motherhood has always rested on the bedrock of unconditional love. I believe this is what each one of us who chooses to become a parent owes our children,” her post read.

Both her sons are now working professionals in the film industry. Zahaan is a music composer, while Azaan is a filmmaker known for the 2016 Naseeruddin Shah-starrer Bankster.

“A broken plate here or a teacher’s note there, hardly signal the end of the world. We don’t owe our children perfection, we owe them love, support and guidance,” she concluded.
