ZEE5 has recently unveiled 10 big-ticket originals and announced the digital premiere of a slew of new movies for the global Bengali diaspora in the next year.
The popular OTT platform plans to release at least one Bengali web series every month. From murder mysteries to crime thrillers, detective adventures, comedy dramas and romance, the audience will have a range of shows to choose from. These collaborations will bring together reputed storytellers and popular stars of the industry.
The initiative, titled Erpor Ki, was announced amid much fanfare at an event attended by the who’s who of Bengali entertainment industry, including Prosenjit Chatterjee, Ankush Hazra, Oindrila Sen, Kaushik Ganguly, Arindam Sil, Anjan Dutt, Indranil Roychowdhury and Raj Chakrabarty.
Among the fresh new content announced by ZEE5 is a murder-mystery Raktokarabi, starring Raima Sen and Vikram Chatterjee. It revolves around a Bengali joint family with closets full of secrets waiting to be uncovered.
National-award winning actor-director Kaushik Ganguly will collaborate with popular mainstream actor Ankush Hazra for the mystery-thriller Shikarpur. This show will mark Ankush’s OTT debut. The Savings Account actor will be playing an underdog detective in the series.
Ananya Chatterjee and Saswata Chatterjee will be sharing screen space for Kantaye Kantaye based on the detective novel Shonar Kanta by Narayan Sanyal. Director Arindam Sil will bring Satyajit Ray’s much-loved sleuth to ZEE5 with Shabash Feluda. Parambrata Chattopadhyay will slip into the shoes of Feluda and solve a murder and cross-border espionage in this series based on Gangtok Ey Gondogol.
Director Indranil Roychowdhury’s first OTT fiction series Chhotolok promises to be a human story that will keep the audience engaged. Indrani Haldar, Priyanka Sarkar, Ushasi Ray and Gaurav Chakrabarty will play significant roles in this series.
Raj Chakraborty is back with a new spin-off to the much-loved Proloy franchise. Saswata Chatterjee will be reprising the role of a cop in this show titled Abar Proloy., Popular TV actress Oindrila Sen will make her OTT debut with Swetkali, an edge-of-the-seat spooky thriller about cold-blooded murders revolving around an age-old goddess idol.
Also on the line-up is director Anjan Dutt’s Seven, a thriller showcasing the vices of human nature, starring the auteur himself. Completing the roster of originals are Teni Madhab Shil er Full Panjika, a quirky musical romantic thriller, and Matsyanyay, which is a story about the scams of a family running a unique medicine business, coming from the house of Parambrata Chattopadhyay’s Roadshow Movies.
