Yudhra to Transformers One: New films releasing this theatres this week

Apart from the new releases, film festivals dedicated to Kareena Kapoor Khan and Akkineni Nageshwar Rao are also scheduled this week

From taut thrillers to supernatural dramas and animated adventures, a diverse mix of films are hitting cinemas this week. In addition, moviegoers can watch a host of old classics that are re-releasing in theatres on the occasion of Cinema Lovers’ Day on September 20, with tickets starting at just Rs 99. Here’s a quick guide to this week’s theatrical releases.

Yudhra (Hindi)

Cast: Siddhant Chaturvedi, Malavika Mohanan, Raghav Juyal, Gajraj Rao, Shilpa Shukla, Ram Kapoor

Directed by Ravi Udyawar, known for his work on Mom (2017), Yudhra follows the story of the titular character played by Siddhant Chaturvedi. His world is shattered when a brutal drug cartel murders his parents. Determined to take down the kingpin, Firoze (Raghav Juyal), Yudhra embarks on a relentless mission for justice. Co-written by Farhan Akhtar and Shridhar Raghavan, Yudhra will showcase Siddhant’s extensive training in MMA, kickboxing and jiu-jitsu.

Kahan Shuru Kahan Khatam (Hindi)

Meera (Dhvani Bhanushali) takes charge of her destiny by escaping from an arranged marriage on the day of her wedding in Kahan Shuru Kahan Khatam, a light-hearted comedy film written by Laxman Utekar and Rishi Virmani. While escaping, Meera crosses paths with a charming wedding crasher (Aashim Gulati), leading to a series of misadventures. As Meera’s family, led by her concerned mother (Supriya Pilgaonkar), sets off in search of her, chaos and comedy ensue.

Transformers One (English)

Returning to its animated roots for the first time since The Transformers: The Movie (1986), Transformers One takes audiences back to the origins of the iconic conflict between Optimus Prime (Chris Hemsworth) and Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry). This animated film explores their friendship and the pivotal decisions that led to their rivalry, shaping the fate of their home planet, Cybertron. Scarlett Johansson voices Elita-1, while Keegan-Michael Key lends his voice to B-127.

Dancing Village: The Curse Begins (Indonesian)

Cast: Aulia Sarah, Maudy Effrosina, and Jourdy Pranata

An adaptation of the novel KKN di Desa Penari by SimpleManax, Dancing Village: The Curse Begins follows Mila (Maudy Effrosina) as she, along with her cousin Yuda (Jourdy Pranata) and friends, attempts to return a stolen bangle to a remote mysterious village deep in the forests of Java. However, they soon encounter dark forces, led by the mythical Badarawuhi (Aulia Sarah), a vengeful spirit ruling the village. As Mila uncovers the terrifying secrets of the village and its eerie dancers, she faces a deadly ritual that could seal her fate.

Celebrating 25 Years of Kareena Kapoor Khan: Film Festival

Fans of Kareena Kapoor Khan are in for a treat with a special film festival celebrating her 25 years in Bollywood. Running from 20-27 September, the festival will showcase some of her iconic performances, including Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Jab We Met, Omkara, Asoka and Chameli.

ANR 100: Celebrating the Legendary Akkineni Nageswara Rao

The ANR 100 film festival pays tribute to Telugu cinema legend Akkineni Nageswara Rao. Spanning decades, this festival will feature his timeless classics such as Devadasu (1953), Mayabazar (1957), Gundamma Katha (1962), and Premabhishekam (1981). Audiences can also catch Manam (2014), ANR’s final masterpiece.

Re-releases of the week

Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the 2001 romantic classic Tum Bin is back in theatres, offering a fresh chance to audiences to experience this story of love and loss. The plot follows Shekhar (Priyanshu Chatterjee), a man haunted by guilt after causing a tragic accident as he tries to atone by helping the family of the deceased. In the process, he forms a bond with the fiancée of the victim, played by Sandali Sinha.

Satyajit Ray’s masterpiece Mahanagar also returns to cinemas in a 2K restored version. Set in 1950s Kolkata, the film tells the story of Arati (Madhabi Mukherjee), a housewife who defies societal norms by working to support her family.

Kamaleshwar Mukherjee’s Chander Pahar is also hitting cinemas again this Friday. Starring Dev as Shankar Roy Chowdhury, the film traces the adventures of a young Bengali who sets out for Africa in search of fortune.
