Marvel Animation's X-Men ’97 will be a continuation and not a reboot of the popular animated series of the 1990s, the makers of the show revealed in a new promo video dropped a week ahead of the show’s Disney+ premiere.
X-Men ’97 promises to transport viewers back to the unforgettable era of the 1990s, where the X-Men, a group of mutants with extraordinary abilities, confront unprecedented challenges in a world that both fears and loathes them. This time, however, they find themselves facing new and unpredictable challenges.
“X-Men ’97 is not a reboot of the original series, but literally, a next-day continuation,” said executive producer Brad Winderbaum.
Larry Houston, the consulting producer for the show, added, “Like the '90s show, we're keeping the themes of those stories that were so powerful, but adapting it for a brand-new audience.”
The voice cast boasts several talented performers including Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cathal J. Dodd as Wolverine, JP Karliak as Morph, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, AJ LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, Matthew Waterson as Magneto, and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler.
Guided by head writer Beau DeMayo and directed by Jake Castorena, Chase Conley, and Emi Yonemura, X-Men ’97 promises to deliver a captivating blend of action, drama, and nostalgia.
The first two episodes of X-Men ’97 will be streaming on Disney+ March 20 onwards.
