A moment from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was beyond my expectations. Spider-Man has been one of my favourite superheroes since childhood. The latest film has marvellously maintained the legacy of Stan Lee's Spider-Man and literally taken the spider-verse to the next level. The stunning animation work, action sequences and dazzling imagery offered an unparalleled cinematic experience. I never knew that watching the Spidey verse would be so fascinating. Literally, a delightful watch that is enough to boost one's weekend mood. (I liked/didn't like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse because... June 3) Aayman Anwar Ali

This movie has to be the most jaw-dropping and, by far, the greatest cinematic masterpiece I have seen. The stunning and outstanding visuals create a thrilling atmosphere better than the first movie (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). The concept of a multiverse where multiple versions of Spider-Man from different dimensions coexist was a key element that made the first film stand out. Across the Spider-Verse expands this concept, delving deeper into the multiverse and exploring new dimensions and versions of the beloved web-slinger. This allows for endless storytelling possibilities and opens the door to exciting collaborations between different Spider-Men and Spider-Women. At a time when Marvel has faced hit-or-miss situations, it crumbles upon expectations built by itself. But this movie reminded me of what Marvel is capable of when they focus on telling a "character's story" rather than a "franchise's story".

This is genuinely one of the best-animated movies I have seen in my life, it is a 'perfect' Spider-Man movie in every sense of the word, and I will confidently go as far as to say that this is also one of the best superhero movies ever made. This film's epic moments, epic battles and jaw-dropping scenes reminded me of the time when I watched Infinity War for the first time. This film is definitely one to watch with friends and family in a theatre. I went on the opening night and being a part of the crowd was an amazing experience. Debojit Swarnaker

Unlike most of the Marvel films that have collapsed in recent times owing to their same technique of telling a story based on the same template, Across the Spider-Verse gives us the most engaging and entertaining Marvel superhero experiences of recent times.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse can boast of creating a cinematic experience that has hardly been paralleled by any other animated film. The main reason for this is its animation which is innovative, enigmatic and the strongest pillar of the film. Leveraging state-of-the-art animation, this film, like its predecessor, gives us some of the strongest world-building that is unseen in most superhero franchises these days. The transitions from one universe to the other, to the change of setting from New York to Mumbattan to Nuova City have been executed with finesse.

In particular, the Mumbattan premise stands as one of the memorable moments, not just due to the colourful recreation of a futuristic Mumbai but also due to the introduction of an Indian spidey — whose name is Pavitr Prabhakar — and who definitely shows promise and keeps us wanting for more of him in the next film. Also, the film's primary antagonist, Spot, has been given sufficient scope to set himself up for the showdown between him and the superheroes.

As for the voice cast, each one of them is terrific. Shameik Moore is an impressive Miles Morales while Hailee Steinfeld does make a good Ghost-Spidey. To deep-dive further, Across the Spider-Verse seamlessly weaves into the narrative structure, scenes and references from Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man films. Brian Tyree Henry and Luna Lauren Vélez as Miles' parents steal the show from the entire cast. Brian, in particular, seemed to be having an absolute cracker of a time giving the film its standout laugh-out-loud moments. He also gets some of the best lines. The themes of the transitory nature of life, responsibility and sacrifice have been handled well. The ending is a solid cliffhanger and keeps the interest intact for the next film in the series. Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse is the best Spider-Verse movie ever! This is a perfect sequel that carries on the story of Miles Morales and the Spider-Verse with fun, storyline, action and animation. It was a treat to watch Pavitr Prabhakar and his scenes! The second half of the movie is insane!!! Loved the twists and the climax! Can't wait for the next part!! Ritrisha Banerjee

When the inclusion of an Indian Spider-Man was announced, going by his get-up, I initially feared the usual Western representation of the East in cinema and almost expected a stereotypical depiction of the country. While the inclusion of Prabhakar is much appreciated, it merits an admission that an Indian Spider-Man simultaneously assures a significant commercial gain made in the world's most populous country.

Having said that, I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed Prabhakar, voiced by Karan Soni. He was exuberant and confident. Additionally, the depiction of India did not upset me much. I rather enjoyed the representation of the wiry sky, the clotheslines, the traffic and the stray dogs in Spider-Verse style. The 'chai tea' conversation was also hilarious and Prabhakar's line — "This is where the British stole all our stuff" — had me laughing.

The Metro Boomin song Am I Dreaming played during the credits is still with me. I like the lyrics revolving around internal rhyming based on the repetition of the vowel 'o' and the 'ed' sound: "Kiss my mama on the forehead, 'fore I get the code red / 'Cause I was born, bred to go in, toast read."

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is an absolute triumph that takes everything we loved about the original film and cranks it up to a whole new level. This stunning sequel is a true testament to the power of animation, storytelling and the enduring legacy of everyone's favourite web-slinger. The film seamlessly picks up from where its predecessor left off, thrusting us back into the mesmerising world of the Spider-Verse. The animation is once again a feast for the eyes, with its vibrant colours, dynamic action sequences and unique art style.

The attention to detail is awe-inspiring, making every frame feel like a meticulously crafted comic book panel brought to life. Across the Spider-Verse's narrative effortlessly weaves together multiple dimensions, offering mind-bending twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. The pacing is superb, balancing intense action sequences with quieter, introspective moments that allow the characters to shine. The screenplay is sharp, witty, and filled with clever nods to the rich Spider-Man lore.

But what truly sets Across the Spider-Verse apart is its heart. The characters are beautifully written and expertly portrayed, drawing us deeper into their journeys and making us truly care about their struggles. Miles Morales continues to shine as a relatable and inspiring protagonist and we see his growth as he grapples with the responsibilities of being a superhero. The introduction of new characters adds its own unique charm to the spider-verse. The interactions between the various spider-people are filled with humour, heart and genuine camaraderie. Their chemistry is electric and the way they come together to face a common threat is both thrilling and emotionally resonant. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is not just a film; it's a celebration of everything that makes Spider-Man an enduring icon. It captures the essence of the character, the spirit of heroism, and the power of self-belief. It reminds us that anyone can be a hero, regardless of their background or circumstances. In conclusion, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a cinematic marvel that transcends expectations. It is a visual spectacle, an emotional rollercoaster and a testament to the power of storytelling.

I hugely loved Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. In fact, the film mesmerised me. It's a charming sequel to the Academy Award-winning 2018 movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. This latest film's story was fascinating and compelling. Plus, the story was narrated so excellently and intelligently that the entire film became an engaging and entertaining watch. I liked the use of top-class animation, which made each and every scene, a visual treat. Overall, it is a fantastic film and I enjoyed every second of this stunning movie filled with jaw-dropping action and mind-blowing animation. No doubt, this fresh Spider-Man film is one of the finest superhero movies and a masterpiece. One hopes that this wonderful movie will clinch many prestigious awards just like its predecessor.
