Netflix’s supernatural mystery series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega has started production for its second season, the streaming platform announced on Tuesday, sharing a video tha catalogues the cast of the upcoming instalment.
“New mystery. same misery. WEDNESDAY season is now in production,” the streamer captioned its post on Instagram.
The video begins with Thing (a severed hand that is Wednesday’s constant companion in the series) delivering scripts to old and new members of the cast. Ortega is set to reprise her role as Wednesday Addams in the upcoming instalment. Returning members of the cast also include Joy Sunday (Bianca), Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia), Emma Myers (Enid), Hunter Doohan (Tyler), Moosa Mostafa (Eugene), Luis Guzmán (Gomez), Georgie Farmer (Ajax) and Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley).
The video reveals some new additions with Steve Buscemi playing Barry Dort, Billie Piper as Capri, Joanna Lumley as Grandmama and Thandiwe Newton as Dr. Fairburn. Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, Noah Taylor will also join the cast of Season 2. Guest stars include Joanna Lumley, Jamie McShane, Francis O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, Joonas Suotamo, Fred Armisen and Christopher Lloyd.
“Hello Thing...more torture awaits,” says Wednesday to Thing in the video. A close-up of the script reveals that the first chapter, directed by Tim Burton, is titled “Here We Woe Again”.
Show creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar confirmed the mystery series was renewed for a second season in June 2023 at Netflix's Tudum.
The first instalment of the series, which premiered on November 23, 2022, had ended with Hyde (Doohan) still alive and Wednesday receiving threatening phone calls and texts from an unknown number. The second season will reportedly take off from this juncture. However, fans will perhaps have to wait till 2025 before they can enjoy this upcoming instalment.
