Floats featuring popular fictional characters Wednesday Addams and One Piece’s Monkey D. Luffy grabbed eyeballs on Thursday at the 98th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in Manhattan.
Netflix took to its official Instagram handle and shared a video of the parade featuring a giant Wednesday watching over a pile of rotten food covered in worms. Her brother, Pugsley Addams, was right in front of her, with his head on a platter as the main dish instead of a turkey.
The procession was led by a group of Wednesday lookalikes who walked down the roadshow along with the indie-pop singer Bishop Briggs. Briggs performed a special gig during the annual parade.
“My only Thanksgiving tradition is hating it. #MacysParade,” the streamer wrote alongside the video.
Floats with popular anime characters Goku from Dragon Ball, Luffy from One Piece and Pikachu and Eevee from Pokemon also joined the procession.
The official X handle of Pokemon posted a picture of a giant floating balloon figure of Pikachu and Eevee on a sleigh walking down the parade road. “Floating into the holiday season feeling thankful for Eevee, Pikachu, and you! Hope you enjoyed the @Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade, Trainers! #MacysParade,” the caption read.
This is the eighth and second appearance, respectively, for Goku and Luffy in the popular parade show. The official handle of Toei Animation posted a video of the anime character’s giant balloon dragged by an army of Goku lookalikes on social media. “Goku, in his Saiyan form debut, made it through the streets of New York City in the 98th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” they wrote in the caption.
Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece first debuted in 2023 at the Macy’s and made his second appearance this year. Sharing a picture of the giant floating balloon of Luffy, Toei Animation wrote on Instagram, “LIVE: The captain of the Straw Hat Crew, Monkey D. Luffy, is flying at the 98th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!”
Other popular fictional characters who featured in the parade this year include Dora, SpongeBob, Minions, Pokemon, Bluey, Beagle Scout Snoopy, Ronald McDonald and Pillsbury Doughboy.
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, a three-hour event held annually in New York City, is organised by the American department store Macy's. It was first celebrated in 1924.
