Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh play a married couple who stick together despite the challenges thrown at them by life in the trailer of A24’s romance drama We Live in Time.
The two-minute-27-second-long trailer shows how the lives of Almut (Pugh) and Tobias (Garfield) change forever in the most unexpected ways when they stumble upon each other. The video strings together snapshots from different phases of their decade-long journey. However, when Almut undergoes a serious diagnosis, the couple decide to look back on their journey together and narrate their love story to their young daughter.
As they embark on a journey that is limited by the boundaries of time, Almut and Tobias learn to value every little moment of the unusual path their relationship has taken.
“I’m guilty of looking ahead instead of right in front of me,” Garfield says in the video after it shows Florence reluctant to undergo a treatment that “accidentally wastes their time”. The couple eventually realise that they need to make the most out of their time together as it is likely to be brief.
We Live in Time will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. Nick Payne, who has served as a screenwriter on The Crown, wrote the screenplay for the film. Benedict Cumberbatch has served as the executive producer under the banner of his company SunnyMarch alongside Leah Clarke, Adam Ackland and Guy Heeley. Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin have also produced it for StudioCanal.
We Live in Time is directed by Brooklyn and The Goldfinch helmer John Crowley.
