Amazon Prime Video on Saturday announced a prequel of its popular superhero series The Boys titled Vought Rising, starring Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash as Stormfront.

“Introducing the next deranged entry into the world of The Boys: Vought Rising, starring Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash. Set in the 1950s, exploring the early exploits of Soldier Boy and a supe you know as Stormfront,” wrote the streamer on Instagram.

Based on the eponymous comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys follows a team of misfit vigilantes who fight against corrupt super-powered individuals known as Supes, led by Homelander.

The series stars Karl Urban as Billy Butcher and Antony Starr as Homelander.

Season 4 of the show, which premiered on Prime Video on June 13, revolved around Billy Butcher’s plans to release a lethal virus targeting the Supe community.

Starr’s Homelander, on the other hand, was seen exploiting claims of patriotism to transform his band of “beloved celebrities” into “wrathful gods”, who will pit themselves against protesting humans.

Showrunner Eric Kripke had recently announced that the satirical superhero drama series will end with Season 5.

The Boys series executive producer Paul Grellong serves as executive producer and showrunner on Vought Rising. The prequel reportedly deals with the origins of the highly corrupt multinational corporation Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy (the former leader of the superhero team Payback), and the diabolical manoeuvres of the Supe Stormfront.

The announcement was originally made by Kripke at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday.
