Meeting Anushka Sharma gave Virat Kohli a new perspective on life and helped him to become a “more accepting” person, the Team India cricketer said in the latest episode of RCB Podcast.
“When you look for inspiration, you start from home and obviously, Anushka has been a big inspiration for me,” Virat said in the podcast.
“My life had a completely different perspective. When you fall in love with a person, you start processing those changes within you as well. Her outlook towards life was different and it urged me to change for the better and become more accepting of things,” he added.
Speaking to Danish Sait, Kohli also opened up on the struggles that the couple had to go through during the COVID-19 lockdown, highlighting the sacrifices Anushka made for their daughter Vamika.
“The way things have been in the past two years, we have had our child and as a mother, the sacrifices that she made have been massive. Looking at her, I realised whatever problems I had were nothing. As far as expectations are concerned, as long as your family loves you for who you are, you don’t expect much because that is the basic requirement,” the former team India skipper said.
Recalling his 22nd test century in Birmingham, during India’s 2018 tour of England, Kohli said Anushka was as nervous as him. Anushka, who was present during the second day of the first innings, rejoiced when Kohli scored his century and proved the naysayers wrong about his test-playing abilities.
“I came back to the room. I was a bit emotional. Anushka was there. She also got a bit emotional. She was feeling very happy for me because she understood being in the stadium, after a build-up of four years and watching that moment,” Kohli told Sait.
“We were both very happy. Went out for a nice dinner. It was like so much weight was lifted off my shoulders,” Kohli recalled in the podcast.
