Comedian Vir Das, who made history recently as the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards, skipped formal shoes and opted for his old sneakers to go with his outfit for the event, he said in a social media post on Monday.
Sharing pictures from the International Emmys 2024 ceremony held in New York City on November 26, Das wrote, “A first ever Indian hosted the International Emmys @iemmys stupid chap wore his old sneakers because he was very nervous. He was Wearing @salookalife by a brand new young designer @thegirlwhostitched out of Delhi. He was styled by Stylist @shreejarajgopal who went through MANY emails to find the right designer to launch.”
“He wore Jewels @hanut101 and wanted green to remind him of a DPS green tie. Photographed by @sarthak_kher,” Das added.
For the event, Das donned an indo-western outfit — a monochrome ensemble accessorised with a green stone pendant that reminded him of the green tie of his school uniform. His outfit was designed by Delhi-based couturier Shubhangi Bajpai.
Earlier this year, Das had announced that he is looking for fresh talent to design his outfit for the International Emmys. He had also stated that he did not want to wear a Tuxedo. Instead, he would prefer “something Indian from home” that is also “super formal”.
“I'm going to wear something Indian from home. I'm also not going to wear a fancy designer…You have to make me look good in formal wear which is a task I assure you. It has to be Indian or Indo-western fusion. I do not need a tuxedo,” he wrote on Instagram.
The 45-year-old comedian-actor took home the best comedian award at the International Emmys in 2023 for his Netflix comedy special Landing. Das was nominated for an Emmy in the Comedy category in 2021 for his comedy special Vir Das: For India.
On the work front, Das recently appeared as a news anchor in Prime Video’s Call Me Bae, starring Ananya Panday. He is currently on his international Mind Fool tour, slated to conclude in March next year.
