Comedian-actor Vir Das chose budding couturier Shubhangi Bajpai from Delhi to design his outfit for the 52nd International Emmy Awards, he said in a social media post shared hours before the event in New York City on November 26.

Vir Das, who made history as the first Indian to host the annual event, wrote on social media on Monday, “As promised. I will be wearing a brand new designer for the Emmys. As promised, I know nothing about fashion. But she does and she worked super hard. Her name is Shubhangi Bajpai and she is from Delhi. Happy to show you her work soon. Do keep in mind, she doesn't have much to work with here.”

In an accompanying note, the 45-year-old comedian-actor mentioned that Shubhangi had been selected from over 4,000 entries. “We had like 4,000 people submit. I wanna thank you for sending your stuff. We picked this kid from Delhi,” he wrote.

Earlier, Vir had announced that he is looking for fresh talent to design his outfit for the International Emmys. He had also stated that he did not want to wear a Tuxedo. Instead, he would prefer “something Indian from home” that is also “super formal”. “I'm going to wear something Indian from home. I'm also not going to wear a fancy designer. They have enough cash and clients. So we're gonna launch someone new. So if you're a budding designer, label, student, and you can put together super formal stuff...This is super duper ultra formal wear at a very high level for a very large audience. You have to make me look good in formal wear which is a task I assure you :-) It has to be Indian or Indo-western fusion. I do not need a tuxedo,” he wrote on Instagram.

Vir had taken home the best comedian award at the Emmys in 2023 for his Netflix comedy special Landing. He was nominated for an Emmy in the Comedy category in 2021 for his comedy special Vir Das: For India.

On the work front, Vir recently appeared as a news anchor in Prime Video’s Call Me Bae, starring Ananya Panday. He is currently on his international Mind Fool tour, slated to conclude in March next year.
