Vikrant Massey and Raashii Khanna’s The Sabarmati Report will hit theatres on November 15, production house Balaji Motion Pictures announced on Thursday.
“The burning truth will be out on 15th November. Stay Tuned. #TheSabarmatiReport only in cinemas,” the makers wrote, sharing a poster of the film on Instagram.
Originally scheduled to hit theatres on May 3, the film’s release was delayed as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had reportedly raised objections to certain scenes in the film. Further, director Ranjan Chandel had decided to step back from the project following creative differences with the makers.
The film is now helmed by Dheeraj Sarna.
The Sabarmati Report features Vikrant Massey as Shraban Kumar, a fearless journalist on a warpath against the system to unravel the truth about the 2002 Godhra train-burning incident. Raashii’s character supports Vikrant in his quest for the truth.
A teaser dropped by the makers earlier this year also features Jawan actress Ridhi Dogra. The video takes us to the on-field media coverage following the burning of Sabarmati Express in Gujarat’s Godhra on the morning of February 27, 2002. The incident had reportedly led to the death of 59 passengers.
The film is jointly produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul V Mohan and Anshul Mohan.
