Tamil star Chiyaan Vikram, who plays Aditha Karikalan in Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2, recently revealed that he was initially worried about the epic period drama being released in two parts.
“I was personally a little worried. Crew members at the dubbing told me that the first part is only introductions. The second part has the story. Will it work? I was all smiles and confident but a wee bit tense inside. However, after the response (the first part received), I can’t wait to see the second part. All of us are going to watch the film as moviegoers as well as fans of Mani Ratnam,” the actor said at a recent press meet in Mumbai as part of PS: II promotions.
Gushing about his experience of working with Mani Ratnam, the Cobra actor said it was a dream come true for him and his coworkers. “It was all work and no play but we all lived a dream. All of us are proud to be part of the film. Each character has a fan club. To think that each character has a face now and that it is ours is very humbling.”
During the press meet, PS: II director Mani Ratnam came up with a witty comeback when he was asked whether PS: III was in the making. “It will be there, I am sure. But I don’t know who will make it,” the Roja director said.
Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2, starring Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan and Aishwarya Lekshmi in key roles, will be releasing in cinemas on April 28. Oscar-winning music composer A.R. Rahman has composed the music for the epic period drama.
