When a sudden crisis rocks the romance of childhood sweethearts Anurag and Joyee, their world is turned upside down. Will they be together forever? Or fate has something else in store. The new film Omorshongi is a romantic comedy with surreal undertones starring Vikram Chatterjee as Anurag and Sohini Sarkar as Joyee.

Omorshongi is a very engaging entertaining comedy film. My character’s name is Anurag. He is a writer by profession who is into story books, and scripts for docu features. The reason for selecting this film is its script. It’s a beautiful, engaging and entertaining script. It’s a light-hearted comedy that I have never worked on before. So, it was very appealing to me. Working with Sohini is a pleasure. She is one of the most impactful actors of today’s time. We share a comfort zone in real life, so I’m sure it will reflect on screen as well,” says Vikram.

Omorshongi will be directed by Dibya Chatterjee, who has directed Afsos, Dream Homes with Gauri Khan and Echo, a music video featuring Armaan Malik and Eric Nam. “My reason for becoming a part of Omorshongi is the concept. It’s a sweet and beautiful love story. Rom-com is my favourite genre. Also, I know Vikram and Dibya for a long time. Avinaba is a new producer making meaningful movies now. So, it’s a friendly collaboration to work,” says Sohini.

“I really enjoy telling stories which are unusual in nature and have some kind of magic going on. The film is a romantic story on the surface but with a morbid sense of humour. In this Hrishikesh Mukherjee meets Coen brothers universe, bizarre things happen to very nice people. The unexpected twists and turns should leave the audience with a lingering smile and wondering how dark you really like your comedy. I have been away from Calcutta for about 10 years now and this is the best homecoming I could dream of. There’s such a strong sense of familiarity and comfort with everyone I am working with that it almost feels like a carnival in itself. My mother is the happiest since finally I am making something that she can relish watching,” says Dibya.

Vikram feels that Dibya’s vision as a film-maker is quite enchanting. “I’m glad that after making a successful web series and music video, he is finally working here. Looking forward to a great time shooting for this,” adds Vikram. The film is produced by Avinaba Ghosh from Dreams on Sale.
