Vijay Deverakonda’s voiceover opens Rashmika Mandanna’s The Girlfriend teaser, dropped by production house Geetha Arts on Monday.

The one-minute-34-second-long video offers a glimpse of Rashmika’s tumultuous relationship with the male lead, Dheekshith Shetty of Dasara fame.

Set to a soulful background score composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab, the video shows Rashmika experiencing the first stirrings of love before going through a phase of emotional distress because of her complicated relationship with Dheekshith.

The teaser suggests that Rashmika plays a college student in the film.

However, the exact plot of the film and its release date have been kept under wraps. Written and directed by Rahul Ravindran, the romantic drama also stars Rao Ramesh and Rohini in key roles.

The film has been bankrolled by Dheeraj Mogilineni and Vidya Koppineedi, with cinematography by Krishnan Vasant. Chota K Prasad serves as the editor of the upcoming drama.

On Sunday, the makers shared a poster of the film featuring Rashmika and Vijay to announce the release of the teaser today. “Heartthrob @thedeverakonda will introduce #TheGirlfriend to the world,” reads their caption to the post.

Rashmika and Vijay are rumoured to be in a relationship. The actors sparked dating rumours in January 2023. A few days ago, pictures of the two on a lunch date went viral on social media.

On the work front, Rashmika has been earning plaudits for her portrayal of Srivalli in the Allu Arjun-starrer, Pushpa 2: The Rule, which minted over Rs 800 crore gross worldwide in just four days.

The 28-year-old actress is currently working on A.R. Murugadoss’ Sikandar, which will feature her opposite Salman Khan. Additionally, Rashmika has Sekhar Kammula’s Kubera in the pipeline.
